Many urban areas had their own distinct style of rhythm n’ blues vocal group harmony. Philadelphia’s was among the most unique. The Castelles were the originators and the epitome of "Philly R n’ B," known by a high tenor lead, a bass, background tenors in beautiful, soulful harmony, and very little instrumentation. Here, lead-singer George “Castelle” Grant is backed by the then-current-day Castelles including original members: first (high) tenor Billy Taylor and second tenor Frank Vance. They perform the group’s 5th release on the Grand Label from the fall of 1954. This is from another awesome live concert by Mark del Costello.
