Cheers to you for all the reading! I’ve been finding it so difficult to get through one or two books here and there. Thank you so much for sharing your recent books with us. To this point, your review of Ducks, Newburyport is the first I’ve heard that intrigues me enough to pick it up. Adding to my tbr for sure!

Jesse I just started reading meeting the universe halfway upon your recommendation and its already got me. So good. so fascinating! Especially after reading the more obvious canonical theory in uni, her writing and ideas are really rich with fresh ideas and provocations. As a student of theatre it she makes me want to read/see "Copenhagen"!!

Well done keeping still so the camera doesn't shake too much! 👍 Really interesting to hear your thoughts on Ducks, Newburyport and how you came around to wanting to reread it. I agree, I think there is a lot more going on below the surface that says something about our psychology and subjective perspective when we're made to feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders. I also found it incredibly funny and endearing how the narrator has faults/prejudices (which I think she herself would admit) but comes across as essentially a good person trying to do her best when juggling so many personal issues and larger worries to do with the world.

I was putting off watching this video because my bookclub books hadn't arrived yet! I am so glad that I can now sit back and enjoy this with a cuppa tea without any spoiler alerts :) Thank you for these videos, they have to be my favourite content on youtube. I love that you read so widely and review with honesty. I just finished 'The Van Apfel Girls are gone' by Felicity Mclean. I highly recommend it, it was a quick read (probably an afternoon) and although all the things about growing up in an Australian country town are so close to my heart, I think anyone would really enjoy the 'pictures painted' by her writing.

@@maxmartire what was the issue with the last video?
@amyamitch
4 жыл бұрын
i highly doubt it, and personally i hope she doesn’t. she’s already given her explanation, and even if people didn’t agree with her or have constructive criticism, there’s nothing she can do to go back and change what happened. it’d be a bit redundant to keep commenting on a situation that can’t be changed. there have been a lot of youtubers that uploaded traveling videos at the beginning of quarantine and have faced a lot of criticism, but i just think we should focus on what can be done now rather than “what ifs,” because like i said, they can’t go back and make up for their mistakes. that’s just my opinion though! i’m sure she reads the comments because i feel like otherwise she wouldn’t have addressed it.
@ninagordin7397

@@maxmartire I mean there is no real point in her replying to those comments. What's done is done. She made a decision, whether it was right or wrong, she is where she is now, and all one can do is move on and go day by day, in this pandemic. i think people need to stop feeling "mightier than thou" to her, and move on with their lives.

Dune fans is gonna tell you that you should continue on with the series. At least reading Dune Messiah will give you clear understanding about what the author trying to tell. Because Dune Messiah is rather than being a new installment to the series but a epilogue of the first novel. Because of this it is a must read imo. Frank Herbert says: "I wrote the Dune Saga because I had this idea that charismatic leaders ought to come with the warning label 'May Be Dangerous To Your Health'"

I read the first half of Exhalation because it was meant to be in the same vein of The Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu (which is a MUST read), and felt the exact same way so I put it down. I felt he was off to a good start but didn't really think through the ending so he jus stumbled into it. Also, he was a very obvious writer in the way he didn't let the reader infer or learn anything but rather he just say things flat out and in a boring fashion if that makes sense. ANYWAYS love you and the video!

Selene Fang she was traveling around the US and NOT social distancing after COVID was known to her and to the world. she was just waltzing around doing fashion videos....like partaking in hyper consumerism and making spons content not like going to visit gran or going to an essential job. just flaunting privilege spreading disease in a country that she isn’t even from.
