I think I'd say that as a general rule, if a pattern is drafted for a B sewing cup and you have a D cup or bigger, you probably need to do an FBA. You can add 2" to your high bust and use that measurement as the 'full bust' measurement for your starting size. Then do an FBA with however many inches you need above the 2" standard B cup. Does that make sense? I've also emailed pattern designers when I wasn't sure which size to pick. I think the measurement range for each size on this top sounds silly. How is anyone supposed to pick the appropriate size? I also usually have to size down for Friday Pattern Company. It's so hard to get it right. I'm looking forward to seeing both Adrianna dresses and am intrigued by the finishing details. I do appreciate a nice finish. You're definitely right that the Blackwood Cardigan is a super speedy sew. I think you'll enjoy it! And the color of your fabric is gorgeous. Hope you're feeling much better soon! ❤️

I usually follow the -2 rule to find the high bust, but with the measurement range, it was daunting to try to pinpoint where to draft from. Like the three inch range leaves a lot of room for error if you're trying to determine the high bust and where to alter it from there. Next time, I'll definietly reach out and let them help me pick a size!

The advice I've received from sewing instructors is to choose your size based on your high bust measurement. It will have the best chance of fitting your shoulders, and then do the FBA to add extra girth for the full bust. On the square neck top it appears to have a French dart which points towards the bust but not at bust height, that kind of dart is for subtle waist shaping. So it may not be AS off as you first thought but you definitely could have sized down. Looking forward to seeing your makes!

The Sqaure Neck top doesn't have high bust measurements in the size chart and the loosey gooesy ness of the size chart meakes it more confusing. So my measurements are 40 high bust and 44 full bust. The size chart lists 44-46 for size XXL and you can choose the A/B or C/D cup. I want to follow-up and ask the designer if 1.) the C/D cup is drafted for 3 or 4 inch difference and 2.) if that difference is based off 44, 45 or 46 inches. (I probably should have put a screen shot of the size chart up to better explain.) I think the range is probably great for folks who might be put off or feel pigeon-holed by not meeting the exact requirement, but I really like the precise information. I went back and looked at the dart and determined it's closer to a regular dart. I think the dart in line drawing looks more angled than it actually is. It's pretty straight on and there's fullness on both sides of the dart which is why it looks so funky on me. I'm not suggestion the pattern is incorrectly drafted. It's probably a just a bummer combo of the wrong shape/size for me plus my slopey shoulders.

Woven boxy tops are problematic for large busts, I've found. It's hard to find the sweet spot between too tight to move around in and so roomy that you feel like you're wearing a circus tent.

Right! I have a couple RTW ones that somehow fit, so I've been annoyed that what I've sewn hasn't worked out...yet!
