I’m glad you enjoyed Children of Time! I love the way it explored generational memory and empathy. I loved the No Country For Old Men film, so I’ll have to read the book eventually!

Great video, Baron! Wonderful hearing your thoughts on The Road and Children of Time. Anathem sounds very cool, and I love the title for a tome! I hope you enjoy all the books you get to in April. I read No Country for Old Men several years ago and still haven’t seen the movie. I’m the worst when it comes to seeing adaptations sometimes. I’m very curious to hear your thoughts on it!

"I was worried that McCarthy was insane, and well, he might be" LOL. Agree entirely about The Road. It's been like 12 years since I read it originally and it was such an impactful read. No Country for Old Men is also great but was spoiled slightly by the movie so I'm glad you get to experience it without that (Then go watch the movie!!). Excellent review of Revival as well. I'll let you know if Children of Ruin is worth reading 👍

Here's the thing with Carrion Comfort, I loved it, and I'm a Dan Simmons fan, this being amongst my favorite -- but you have a completely valid complaint. All thru the book, there are scenes that are fantastic, and some that move quite slowly. And I'll be honest, that 'up and down' pace will continue all the way until the end. I leave in your hands the decision to proceed or not.

I think Carrion Comfort is an outstanding horror story, but it does have some flaws, most notably that the book is just too long. It drags in places, particularly in the middle, where it seems you got mired. A hundred pages shorter and it would be a tighter story. Keep at it! Simmons sticks the landing pretty well. I agree about the sterility of the writing in Children of Time. I loved the ideas in the book, but I didn’t ENJOY reading it enough to start in on the sequel. A better book about heroic space ‘spiders’ (IMO) is Vernor Vinge’s A Deepness in the Sky. You might try some Zane Grey for classic westerns. I think they have more depth than L’amour.
@YourBrainonBooks

Yeah, that has certainly been my issue with CC. I will keep at it :) Thanks for the recommendations! I am a little lost when it comes to westerns but have really enjoyed reading them so far.

The Road is a masterpiece. Got me out of a massive reading slump last year. Yes, Revival! One of my favourite King books, another favourite of last year. I recently bought Carrion Comfort so hopefully I'll like it, doubt I'll be reading it until I'm finished Malazan Book of The Fallen. I want to read Anathem but again, I'm reading Malazan so I don't need more 1000 page tomes in my life right now lol In March I read: *Fantasy* Malazan 7: Reaper's Gale Tigana - Guy Gavriel Kay - I think I'll be re-reading this soon. *Historical-Fiction* The Last Kingdom - Bernard Cornwell - I love the Warlord Chronicles (Cornwell's grounded Arthurian retelling) and I'm a huge fan of the show so I finally bit the bullet and am loving the books so far. These are great palate cleansers, which I might treat them as for now given the length of the series. *Historical-Fiction/Horror* The Terror - Dan Simmons - Despite its length, its a quick read. *Sci-Fi* Hyperion Cantos 4: Rise of Endymion - Fantastic conclusion to the series. Just behind Iain M Banks' The Culture for my favourite Sci-Fi book series. I was in a reading slump at the start of March so I read some short stories which really helped. *Sci-Fi* Captive Market & Explorers We & Service Call - Philip K D *Sword & Sorcery Fantasy* Cimmeria (poem) & Frost Giant's Daughter (re-read) & The Hyborian Age - Robert E Howard

If you liked The Ballad Of Black Tom, you should consider reading another book by Victor Lavalle: The Changeling. It generated a lot of buzz when it was published a few years ago. The Changeling is fantastic and evelops the reader, and, in my opinion, it would correspond to your reading tastes. Cormac McCarthy is a great artist, and everyone should read his whole catalogue, but if you read Child Of God, be prepared to detox for awhile by reading the lightest of light fiction.
