That is why you always put a bit of dielectric grease in before putting the antenna whip. This way you keep conductivity and the grease fills any little space water may get into.

I've had mine since it first came out, coil and whip. Never had a problem. Had to replace the coax 2x on the mag mount due to normal exposure but still works great.

I've got a Wilson 5000 and yes you can take them apart. I have taken mine apart and upgraded the coax. I have no problems at all with my Wilson 5000. Even running a 3 pill worldwide through it.

The antenna is $120 today, what you do is pull the whip out and put a tiny O-ring on the bottom of the whip so the water rolls off the O-ring

I have bought SR-A10 .This antenna will give you four times the range of a cheaper antenna. Pay the extra money and get this one. You will not be disappointed.

your right about the SIRO antenna I had 1 5000 wilson bought it new about 2 yrs a go , You can't take it a part either so i cut it a part & the problem was just what your talking about , No holes to drain out ? after i cut it a part i found the problem , The bolt that held the coil was all rusted & lose , i cleaned it up & put a staniless steel bolt & washer in it & drilled 4 3/16 th holes in the bottom it worked fine . but i bought 2 Siros & there the best in my book for me anyway . Thanks for your video .

If it is totally sealed then why would you need a drain hole to drain something that can't get in anyways??

Heres the problem wilsons get with water. it may be true that water gets in the coil if it develops a crack where the stud comes through but I think that's rare. If your getting high swr its not that water is in the coil its that the stud coming through has corroded. I had it happen. spun off the stainless end and the copper stud was corroded causing high swr. cleaned it up and swr came back down. putting no/ox on this connection and the stinger would probably help.

This video maybe the answer to my problems because for my WIlson 1000 Magnet Mount Antenna, I've had it here for two or three years maybe more and when I had my Galaxy DX 959, my SWR was lighting up the other day big time warning me of high SWR's and my antenna was working fine before all this crap started. Anyways, I am gonna take the antenna apart somewhat and look for that hole that Grandpa Marconi was talking about in the video and see if water comes out of it and fixes the SWR problem

I don't know about the new Wilson's, but I agree with you the old ones are good. I have had my 1000 since the mid 90's, and it is still going except the coaxial parted. I never had grounds from rain.

I've been running a Wilson 2000 on my pickup for almost two years now, and I've never had a single issue with it getting water inside the coil housing.

I had the same problem, but love the Wilson 1000. A little silicone sealant or FlexSeal from WalMart fixed it with no problems since then. Problem solved.

@Paul H Ford, what do you recommend to "water proof" or seal around the area of the antenna and mount. I currently use electrical tape to "prevent" water going in, but looks cheap and I have to change the tape out periodically. What do you think about that "rubber spraying " the entire base mount?

Update. My friend has bought the Wilson from a CB radio shop and within one week, he saw inside the Wilson CB Antenna. My issue was a little bit different. Saw good reviews for this crappy antenna and found that it does absolutely nothing for me. I took it to a shop to have it tuned and it was still crap. The antenna comes with 18 feet of thin coax and it doesn't have a connector at the base of the antenna so you can easily swap out antennas. Ask the guys at Mauldroppers.com and they'll tell you the Little Wil antenna sucks. I wish I never touched this crappy antenna. I should have just sent it back. All I get is crackle, fuzzy voice and nothing else. If you want a decent antenna, go with the Wilson 1000 or the 5000. I used this on a Uniden PC68LTW. That's about all I can tell you. Stay away from this product. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. Instead of this junk, I will suggest you buy the Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna (Explore Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna here: strykerradios.com/best-cb-antennas/ ). it will never let you down. If you want to buy a CB, anyone radio will do for normal everyday use. However, the antenna makes or brakes you. After frustratingly buying several smaller more discreet antennas, I purchased the Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna. I prowled the internet and it seems near unanimous that the Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna is the best and smallest low-price antenna you can buy and still get the performance you'd expect out of a CB. The antenna is around 4 feet, which, while not tiny, is not big by CB standards. Properly tuned, this antenna will get you several miles of communication. I travel daily in areas where cell phones don't get out, so this was a good investment for me.

Grandpa needs to change his Depends as he is full of crap. The hole in the antenna stinger ferule does NOT go all the way through so water can NOT enter the coil that way. Also the stinger to ferule tolerances are so tight that water can not get into the ferule. I have taken well over a dozen of these apart and found no path water could take into the coil.
