I want to add up some facts, as per my knowledge and experience. #fact1: Garlic has no relation with altitude sickness cure, but actually it is a thermogenic food which heats your body, so it is said to have garlic to make your body warm rather than as a medicine for altitude sickness. #fact2: when walking dont ever wear a down jacket. Actually it is meant to be worn on rest points or while night stays in the cold regions. If you wear during walking time all the sweat will be absorbed by the down feather and it wont dry soon, so will end of feeling cold afterwards. I prefer GORE-TEX( its a material) , which is both wind and water proof, abit costly but worth it, or there is a principle called "ONION PRINCIPLE" which means layering yourself with multiple clothes, as the air between layers will act as insulator and i always prefer doing this will trekking. #fact3: never ever leave friends, mostly at night time. Mountains are risky places and one can on anytime suffer from altitude sickness, so always a buddy system i.e. choose a partner and always check if he or she is fine or not. Even though if they feel shy to tell one by yourself must ask and notice there behaviour, and share room or tent with eachother. #fact4: Hydrate yourself, actually this must be done, as we lose alot of water in the form of sweat. One must make sure to drink atleast 6-7l of water during trek. If you love ORS than its more better. Make sure to always check your urine color, to see if you are hydrated enough or not. And while ascending I recommend not ot drink alcohal, it may actually trigger altitude sickness too. #fact5: Make sure you eat alot of carbohydrate during, not from sugary drink or chocolate, I personally dont prefer that, but eating porridge, oats, locally made breads what we generally in Nepal Himalayas call it tibetan bread. These are necessary as you need your body to release instant energy, to keep yourself moving tirelessly. #fact6 : Medicine you must carry are for diarrhea, gastritis, headache, ORS, painkillers, chlorine tablets to purify water. For altitude sickness Dimoxe (Acetzolamite: Dosage 125mg twice daily) if one is prone to altitude sickness its better to take one dimoxe at night before moving to higher elevation next day. For worst case dexamethasone 8mg start, than 4mg every 6 hours. Its always better to descend descend and if some one gets symptoms of altitude sickness. Acclimatization is the key always to avoid altitude sickness which means adapting body >2500m, before making a greater elevation move one must make sure to make their body adapt to that surrounding by staying there one extra day more or climbing abit high elevation and staying in low elevation to make your body used to it.
