I just want to point out that after Joseph became emperor he did abolish serfdom and introduced a lot more liberal reforms, which as his mother warned brought most of the nobility against him. In the end he had to roll back many of his reforms on the deathbed, in order to secure Leopold’s position. However, he did manage to abolish serfdom in the realms outside the Hungarian crown, which in the long term allowed Austria to somewhat keep up in development with Western Europe.

Love that scene. It really shows they both have great qualities of character. For a while, they did manage to be a good team. Maria Theresa is clearly more experienced and refined, but she is also honest in admitting Joseph brings interesting ideas to the table.

I don't think it was a total defeat, Austrian power was not question again for 35 years and gave the Habsburg's time to recover, while the Prussians we're nearly destroyed in the war and won basically nothing much.

@@נעםמרקוביץ Yeah, you are right, this war for Austria ended in a status quo.

@@sebastianazocar2368 i think in later years it prove to be costly to Prussia when Napoleon invade Prussia, they didn't had the man power to win him, while Austria just raised more and more armies again and again

Is it even possible that Joseph II and Marie Antoinette are siblings? They are like the exact opposite of one another.

To be fair, Marie Antionette was sent to France when she was only fifteen years old and was hardly taught to change things in her new country.

@@Furienna No. It's attitude. Maria Carolina of Naples was a child too, but she did anything to become a member of the Council of State, And ruled even better than her husband, Ferdinand.
