@@hiphop6045 Tommy Mottola, Sony music executive producer, divorced Mariah in 1997 and since then did what he could to end her career. The hardest blow came when Mariah made a movie and its soundtrack, both by the name of 'Glitter'. She worked real hard on the lyrics, songs, and had many collabs (DaBrat, Nate, Ja). She had recorded the song 'Loverboy' with a sample of an old song called 'Firecracker' -if I'm not mistaken-, and secured the melody in the studio over the summer of 2001. However, J-Lo had just been discovered and Mottola wanted to get her to stardom with the sole purpose of having Mariah flop. And he had her flop. He took the 'Firecracker' melody and put it in one of J-Lo's first singles (maybe the 1st. I don't recall), which turned out to be a huge success. It came out before Mariah's movie and soundtrack album, so she had to use another sample which, from many people's perspective, was not as good as the original she recorded. And while J-lo was #1, Mariah was #2, but her label lowered the price of the single heavily to get it to sell (which isn't that terrible anyway because if people were not interested in her back then, as cheap as the single was it wouldn't have scored a high ranking on the charts). Later on, after this song in particular was recorded and added to the album, Mottola called Ja Rule and asked him to record a duet with J-Lo. This is a story told by Ja Rule himself on an interview. He said that Mottola hated Mariah and that's the only reason he asked him to record a duet with Jennifer. That became "I'm real (remix)", a huge R&B hit, that was only born because somebody with power took on Mariah's creativity and work to give it to somebody else for them to succeed over her. If you listen to both songs, you will notice melodic similarities, specially in Ja Rule's verse. And no, that's not because Ja Rule "wrote" both of them: Mariah co-wrote this and everybody from her team or that has worked with her claims that she is the one to direct the lyrical and melodic direction of her songs. She was stolen. And J-Lo knew that.

Ja Rule could've had Jay Z/Kanye level of success if he didn't collaborate with the "female entertainer". Mimi helped a lot of rappers become popular. The sabotage permanently damaged their working relationship. Future collabs could've increased his power in the industry.
@EtoTheKay

lol Ja's career didn't tank because of this, it tanked because his quality as a rapper went down and tbh, 50 Cent killed his career in that beef they had. Eminem too. Throw in the fact he made bad business decisions like when he turned down Ludacris' role in 2 Fast 2 Furious cause he wanted more money. Look at what Luda's role in the F&F franchise did for his career. And if Mariah was powerful enough to end Ja's career don't you think she would've done the same for J Lo's career? J Lo was a fresh rookie in the music industry then - she woulda been easy to stomp out if that was possible. But ever since her intro back in those days till present, J Lo has had a very successful career.
