This is one of their best Fish era albums. Absolutely gorgeous!! You should really listen to the whole album as it's a concept album and each song is linked to the next till the very end. Masterpiece!!!!! Enjoy your listening ;-)

@@apocketfulofheep you have so many jewels to discover, you are lucky ;-) and they are still producing, they have more than 10 masterpieces of albums from every period, with Fish and Steve Hogarth as singer after 1989

Fantastic album overall. For me, Side two is even better. Blind Curve especially.

@@apocketfulofheepblind curve is the prog song on the album. Goes for 8 minutes or more. This album is fantastic, bit it's a concept album. Need a to be listened to from start to finish. There next album is better in my opinion. Clutching at straws is an autobiographical album by fish, writing about his struggle with fame and substance abuse. It was the last album fish was with marillion.

Marillion in the 80s filled the void left by Genesis when they became commercial and musically boring. Their guitaris was much inspired by Hackett, and their singer Fish was showing originality in Gabriel's style. Even after Fish left, they were still interesting, although, just like with Genesis with Collins, it divided the fans. Their song Easter was a masterpiece, especially live.

That was too my introduction to Marillion and I’ve been a fan ever since! Nice reference to Pink Floyd there. And, of course, finish this concept album. It’s worth it. And then go back and forth between their Fish and Hogarth eras (Fish was the singer 1981 - 1988, and Hogarth 1989 - today). From Fish era, try Script for a Jester’s Tear, Fugazi, Markey Square Heroes, Assassing, Grendel, Incubus, the whole “Clutching at Straws” album, Forgotten Sons... From Hogarth era, try Neverland, the whole FEAR album, The Space (live from Albert Hall), Brave, King, The Invisible Man, A Few Words For The Dead, Ocean Cloud, This Strange Engine...

Thanks for listening. Perhaps, on occasion, you can finish the rest of the first page of the record. ("Bitter Suite" and "Heart Of Lothian") The album is no virtuoso prog fireworks, but its mood always casts me under its spell. Very soulful. "Misplaced Childhood" was my first Marillion album and I loved it. Interestingly, a lot of old Marillion fans didn't like it at all.

Prog fans often don´t like things, that get mainstream success - This was my first contact with them too... THe LP of my father. Side one is great, I think the B- side is not that great. But still a great record. I like Clushing at straws better, but that is an even more controvers opinion. And bothe sides are still good after the split up... "Vigil in a wilderness of mirrors" and "sunsets on empire" by fish, Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, FEAR by Marillion....

Misplaced Childhood is their best-selling album indeed, but Clutching at Straws is considered by most fans to be the best album with Fish as the lead singer. The first 3 tracks of Clutching at Straws are highly recommended.

My favourite era as I can't take to Steve Hogarth. Fish was political and gritty as well as a working class poet.

The best crafted of the Fish era albums though not my favourite (that is Script For a Jesters Tears) but I do love this. Then Fish left and I managed one more album that was average and gave up on them

Also you need to listen to the stuff after FISH left. Steve Hogarth is the current singer and their post Fish stuff is on the same level Unlike Genesis, they did not lose any other members.

Not a fan of this I prefer the newer singer he’s better and the musics better, but the guitarist sounds great on this track but it’s a bit too old skool for me
