It's cool how we communicated back then. I always thought it was just bad acting in old movies but it's not always. I listened to old records of my grandfather talking to others in the 40s and 50s and the way they spoke cleanly and concisely with meaning behind every word. A different time. I remember him always getting after me for saying "like" too much lol. Early 90's and I had 5 sisters lol. Like, alot of sisters. He would also say hate was too strong a word to be used so often, "dislike" he would say, "You dislike mowing my yard with my push reel mower from 1932". R.I.P. Grandpa John. You taught me so much.

People say ‘we’ like this wasn’t a way of talking that was mainly used in film. The transatlantic accent was popularized through the media, and while it’s cool and all, I don’t think we should glamorize ‘the old days’ as being this wonderful time that was so much better - because you know what else people used to say? F*g, the n word, and plenty of other slurs.

When I was 19 I had an older English co-worker get me out of the habit of saying “umm” during conversations and minimize my peppering the word “like” throughout spoken sentences by imagining replacing the word “like” with “giraffe” to realize how silly it was. ...and yeah. It was like totally silly. From what I’ve come to learn, it’s a West Coast, southern California thing.

Marilyn's comedic timing is just chefs kiss. A thing that I have noticed is that she is very expressive which explains why she is good at acting.
