She was amazingly beautiful smart and talented and we are still fascinated by her decades later.
I loved Marilyn then. I love Marilyn still. When I was a boy, I used to have my bedroom walls covered in photos of her cut out from Modern Screen, Motion Picture, Life and Look magazines. She was so beautiful to me. She still is beautiful to me. She was a wonderful actress, very under-appreciated as such. She is THE icon of beauty.

I’m already 39. I don’t put too much emphasis on beauty the way I did when I was younger. The older I get, the more I want to engage in different types of activities. It’s kind of freeing really. I think it’s a time for celebration and devotion towards very meaningful things. I actually wish I had done that when I was younger, but there are a lot of societal pressures for younger women to always be beautiful and glamorous.

She was the type of person to never give up. I could never see her committing suicide- she doesn't seem like she would. I think fox had something to do with her death, or maybe even her housekeeper. I honestly don't think she was suicidal. She was sick and stressed, so she did what she had to do- take time off set. Everybody was doing that to her back then, too via the media of the period; “measure up or we won’t like you anymore!” While she was facing debilitating mental and emotional scarring from sexual abuse in orphanages in her childhood. You are right, those sitting in judgement on her never had to face that. She had the weight of the world on her shoulders. I always loved her and I still do.

cathy smith she wanted to be an actress we all know that, she knew what life was like, she never felt loved since she was a child, she was very broken and all she wanted was to be loved more than anything, but love would come and leave her leaving her more depressed and broken inside. How ugly is it to not even have an uncle or aunt, cousin let alone no siblings to vent to, to cry to, to be happy with. Marilyn was alone and she knew she was alone. She was broken and sad her whole life. Happiness was only temporary and she knew that. Although she doesn’t cry when she speaks, I can hear the sad broken girl inside. She needed a friend.

A I .....it’s a “Gemini thing” as it’s said. I’m a Gemini and when I read about my sign I read once that there is an emptiness within us that we seem to not be able to find. Marilyn was looking for her missing twin, Gemini’s are the twin sign. She was missing a part of her that she couldn’t find, at times she thought she did but those people would only end up abandoning her once again. She was alone in her mind and she feared that’s how it’s going to be forever. There are two sides to Marilyn, the exterior and the interior, inside she was gloomy, dark, sad, empty, she felt no real love, she was alone. She never found her missing twin. ❤️❤️❤️

She had a serious virus and fever. Fox's OWN studio Dr. recommended that they postpone filming for 1 month to allow her time to recover from her illness. But Fox refused the doctors recommendation and forced her to work, and as a result they had a very sick woman on her hands. She missed many days of filming due to the virus. Liz Taylor was costing Fox millions because of her behavior and absences from the set of "Cleopatra", but they took it out on MM, who made more $$$ for them than any other star for the past decade. Shame on Fox, shame on Cukor (who was a tyrant, and especially mean to MM...there are KZitem videos that bear this out...check them out). And don't forget, MM was resigned to finish the movie and was granted a new contract where she would get $1,000,000.00 for making two additional pictures...TEN TIMES what she was originally being paid to do "SGTG" under an old contract. to us 36 doesnt seem old but in the Hollywood world during that time for that particular level of entertainment it was an age that meant she was getting older and her casting for roles would change even though she looked amazing. They have to put newer younger faces out soon to keep things going. Just like when she entered on the screen older actresses had to be pushed into a diff category. Nowadays things are a bit different. Go Betty White lol!

Greta Garbo made her last film at 36 and coincidentally was directed by George Cukor as well. Cukor had remarked that Garbo was complaining about her wrinkles possibly showing on camera of which Cukor told her she was being ridiculous.

using the word "aging" to describe her is unfounded....life or youth is not over at 20. Shame. This is why poor MM thought she was "old" in her mid 30's.

Think of the people behind the movies. They're us working for celebrities. Jobs were lost, work was constantly suspended. But first, it was the studio's fault for hiring her.

SanySheveyandmandiluigi. I agree. But there was too much film footage of Taylor shot for her to be replaced unless they re-shot the whole damn movie like Elephant Walk when Vivien Leigh had a total psychotic breakdown and was replaced by Taylor. Although some of the long shots of Vivien remain in the film Vivien had conveniently broke down early enough into the film to be replaced by Taylor and for it not to show.

I agree entirely. It was grossly unfair. But ultimately it was the studio’s fault for insuring her as fully fit before shooting began. They knew she had a reputation and was probably incapable of acting again by then. But the studio big shots were covered by insurance and the insurance on Monroe was sky high. It reflects badly on them and subsequently Monroe that the little people got screwed. It wasnt the first and wouldnt be the last time sadly.

@dumbasaboxofhair - no one told her she was aging. it was her own perception and insecurity that made things so difficult for her.

Although most people don't want to believe this, Marilyn Monroe was battling severe psychiatric problems such as paranoia and voices in her head. She had been prescribed Thorazine to lessen these symptoms, but at the end of her life she wasn't taking it because it made her put on weight. I think that deep down in her heart she knew that she was not capable of doing two more motion pictures, even though she had just signed a million dollar contract to do these pictures. She was just too physically and mentally ill.

Kinda sad that she was most likely.. right. Shame, shame on a multitude of shallow 'image makers.'

I see what you mean, but as long as it looks good on film or on stage, it works.... Still, the faces of people you care for are always beautiful :)

Bobby told her "nada....not leaving my wife" on the weekend no one heard from her...and she never regained her composure from that rejection. She was probably devastated.

Yes but she was severely depressed and like any severely depressed woman she was secretly very insecure about herself and the worse part is no one knew about it so they couldn't build her up if they didn't know what was going on.

I think Cyd Charrisse is exaggerating about Dean being so mad because after all it was Dean who said he would not do the movie without her. Furthermore, it was the studio, once again trying to control her, that tweaked the news story to say she would not work in Hollywood again. They tried to bully & control her.....keep in mind that this was her last obligation to Fox under her contract. She was developing her own production company.

I just think she was so nervous she needed someone to help sooth her nerves so she could get to the sound stage and perform based on what I knew of how she conducted herself she was so nervous out of her wits that it took her hours to get up the nerve to go on, she had low self esteem and when she made the movie "Some like it hot" with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon she had just lost her and Arthur Millers baby to a miscarriage, so the men she was co-staring with did not even take this into consideration although they must have know since it was all over the papers that she had been in the hospital because of it, so these men in Hollywood that she was dealing with had no clue what kind of issues a woman is dealing with especially a woman the caliper of Marylin Monroe she had to fight for her rights to even get paid the same as some of her male co-workers which set a precedence for all women actors throughout the Hollywood mainframe to this day women actors are thanking her for being the one to put her foot down and claim her fair share of the male dominated pie of the Hollywood life style, she worked hard but men are not compassionate of her since they may have looked at her as a simple minded sex kitten instead of a serious actor

101 people “lost “ their jobs - because of her. There was somebody who knew to hire people to “pay her back”. The suicide story was a. Over up from bad studio press or serious investigation taking place.
