Are they just giving away meritorious PFC out of boot camp now? There were a LOT of PFCs in that video. The way they all sang The Marine's Hymn was sad as well. When we sang it, we belted it out loud and proud...AND IN KEY!

The other services presented educational opportunities, quality of life, and travel to exotic places. But the Marine Corps offered a challenge. 'Maybe you can be one of us.' 'The few the proud' This appeals to a different type of young man/woman. Not a promise, but a challenge is presented.

I'm wondering who designed BCG's. They aren't practical for daily wearing, (no peripheral vision), and they seem to be intentionally demeaning in appearance. The first thing we did was have the lenses transplanted to aviation frames at the PX/ NEX. That was a notable improvement while still maintaining uniform regs.

Used to, you had to do a mandatory 2 years as enlisted before being allowed to even being evaluated to go officer. That stopped somewhere in the late 1800s if memory serves. The rich people (modern equivalent to Nobels who would go into military service as officers because they thought they were too good not to) thought they were better than became officers and changed the rules once they got high enough rank.
