Can confirm, you get complacent when it comes to mortar attacks. My old man told me how one time in Iraq, he was falling asleep on the second floor of the building he was staying at; and one of his teammates told him he was going outside to call his wife. My dad told him okay, and like 10 minutes later a mortar went off like 100 meters away. My dad lay there and was like, "Do I go to a bomb shelter? Naw... buildings made of concrete, I'll be fine." Then he thought. "Wait... what about John? Is he dead? Nah, they'd make more of a fuss if someone was dead." So he rolled over and went back to sleep. Funny thing was, was that his teammate was on the phone with his wife, and then the mortar went off, and his wife heard it and screamed "What was that?!" His teammate, cool as a cucumber, just said, "Uh, I gotta go." And hung up and went to the bomb shelter.

Buddy of mine over in Iraq was stationed in the TOC. He was out having a smoke and someone comes out like "Come inside you have to see this" and on the big blimp they saw a car crash on this highway nearby the base. He said basically in Iraq your car was your family's livelihood so this one guy rear ended another and the guy who got rear ended is pissed. He jumps out with an AK and begins to shoot back at the guy that hit him. The guy taking fire has his like kindergartener son hand him HIS AK and he starts shooting back and these guys are not hitting anything at like 50 feet away. A stray actually hit another car shooting out the windshield or something and this guy parks up. All while this is happening the contractors on guard are just confused asking if they have permission to engage and everyone is baffled. Well the guy who had just parked up goes to his trunk and pulls out a PKM and just starts letting rounds off at both of these guys and eventually one or two strays land near the base. After that one of the contractors fired a warning shot past the guy with the PKM and they all stopped and looked, decided having a fire fight RIGHT NEXT TO A COALITION MILITARY BASE was not a good idea, got in their cars and fucked right off. Shit was wild over there.

A battle buddy woke me up in my bunk for Night Guard duty (Cleaning, sweeping, watching doors.) I remember a flashlight being shined in my eyes, and I remember giving a thumbs up to him, letting him know I'm awake. Apparently, that's not what I did Battle budy: Hey Romeo, are you ok man? Me: Yeah Brad, why? What's up? Battle Budy: Well when I went to wake you up, you popped up with both fists raised ready to punch me! I thought I pissed you off and kinda got spooked! Me: Huh? You sure? I thought I gave you a thumbs up? Battle Buddy: No, you popped up ready to swing! I later apologized to him, explaining that I did not in fact want to hurt him. However, Battle buddy Brad was more cautious when waking me up now. Strange looking back at it, because I'm still sure I gave him a thumbs up!

Up and Down being arrows, and they were gear up gear down. Mode, don't know, rest explains itself. R is reverse, N is neutral, D is drive.

I have a picture of my cousin and his guys who Mad Maxed out their Humvee for the invasion. They had a tank graveyard left over from gulf 1 near their camp so they pulled slabs of armor from these destroyed Iraqi tanks and bribed the local engineer company to ghetto rig them to the humvees. Good enough to keep small arms coming through a fiberglass door but that's about it.

Something in the bed material from the hotel room etc, who knows, triggered my lungs in a hideous way and I apparently was coughing so much to the point of throwing up. So, go through the day of the con, had fun, coming home in the car, at some point I realize I had fallen asleep in my friends car. I don't do that. I've been on trains near 36 hours sleep-deprived and couldn't even NAP, this case...2 odd hour car drive, and I fell asleep near half of it. No clue.

“There’s no ice out there” And it’s that sort of assuming your enemies are inferior cavemen that has been losing us conflicts since WW2. You nailed it, if it ain’t broke (and it ain’t because no one told you it is) don’t fix it. We learn VERY slow. Yeah the Humvee was designed as a biggerJeep because troops has gotten taller and gear has gotten heavier. It was never meant to be a front line vehicle People don’t realize it’s really just a box that sits low on a chassis with big tires Heater is just cheap tubes from the coolant core blown through a slider vent. Seats are similar to the cheap foldable ones you bring to stadiums 😂

It's stories like these that make me wonder why people voluntarily join the military, because they really showcase the 'management does not care about you' problem is so much worse when it's government endorsed and enforced. But at least the sillier stories like the kevlar burrito are unexpectedly funny! Got no stories to share myself though. Seen a halon fire extinguisher system in a hospital cafeteria, while it was thankfully out of reach of the public, it didn't take me long to realize the accidental pull shield is missing. Lets just say I'm glad I didn't stick around longer than I had to, because that exposed handle was mounted in a bottleneck of the buffet kitchen, at hip height.

I was just going hit 19 in 1993 gulf war I was in a Brady, or a striker I was accruing a striker yeah, who is most likely with the striker I called back when I was in my name James I was in my late teens late teens. I would’ve been going on a striker and I think we got hit with the wet so you’re not a PG seven I don’t know what the hell hit us but up my shit was wrapped remember not have been a tank I thought it was an RPG then it was not. There’s a blower rack on our striker that was on. The truck still is on the striker and the rack pretty much you off I think I was rattled for about a couple minutes and will call much. We had a couple Abrams in the convoy. We had strikers Abrams to Bradleys and then I turn off supplies run to I was in the lead striker. I didn’t think they were going to use over two tactics. I pretty much just was a T 72 tank ration Iraqi imperial Garden guard I think after I was done being rattled because it was an ambush. I think I had like three or four rounds left do we had like 34 rounds in empty ammo containers, and roll a targeted one thing and unloaded all four shells. I had well technically five to drive one of the barrel and they were all a P I knocked out a tank. I am one I am free. I am free infantry fighting vehicle. I didn’t notice until about 30 seconds later where it hit that once we got back to base it was a belt it was pretty much, just O2 more to the left what is pierced the church and killed me so I think my stars
