I had a discussion with David about the Commander X16 at PRGE back in 2018 I think. My opinion was an FPGA was required and it wouldn't be remotely as cheap as $50. I'm fine with being wrong but what really grinds my gears is when I give good advice and it's ignored, as the CX16 now has - shocking! - an FPGA and will probably cost hundreds.

@@awesomeferret they're both old school tech KZitemrs with personal opinions I definitely disagree on, but haven't done anything to be cancelled over (unless you wanna bash David over that paperclip fail). I'm a blunt person as well and can feel some sympathy for David and he's admitted he leaves in mistakes to be honest with viewers. Ben is clearly the more expert of an engineer and David has said numerous times that he himself isn't an expert and doing this all as a hobby, so I think it's somewhat unfair to go after him for being imperfect or not knowing every little thing. I do think David really needs to stop working on stuff aggressively because he "has no time to get the right tools". Like using a dremel to open stuff up as opposed to buying an iFixIt kit with all the right bits.

Fun fact: Nintendo still holds a patent on that screen design to implement color on an LCD. When I was a kid, I didn't like the Game & Watch style LCD games but now that I'm older, I get them better. I had one of those as a kid. The 'start' music is different than I remember it, I wonder if there was a firmware change. My 8yo self discovered you could bounce the battery/power a few times and it would enter a diagnostic mode, play all the 100 pt tunes and show all the LCD cells. If you set the clock and alarm, a guy comes out of the passenger side of the right truck and rings a bell when the alarm goes off. The original battery cover slid in and locked into position. Thanks for showing this, I remember playing with this toy a lot growing up.
