Hey Mark, I was introduced to the world of triathlons in the early 90’s and was extremely fortunate to have shared the 95’ Ironman World Championships in Kona with you. You had always been my go to for what trending in equipment and fitness. After 25+ yrs, my kids are grown, wife and I are still happily married and I am setting my sights on restarting my Ironman training again at 47 years old. Thanks for your drive to fight on the course and being a role model to up comers, young and old. I just found your Channel and I am now a subscriber

Triathletes today don’t realise how amazing it was to be part of the birth of a sport. Those early years were just so exciting, the rivalries so good. It’s different today, a lot of the innocence has gone but it’s great to look back at these earlier races 👍

To quote Thomas Hellriegel, “I could feel him but I couldn’t see him. He’s a man killing giant.” That says it all about Mark’s performance.

No matter how many times I watch the 1995 Ironman, it’s ALWAYS an amazing inspiration! I wore out a VHS tape watching and rewatching this race for over 10 years. I’m grateful when I see it on KZitem these days. This streamlined summary is perfect dose of motivation before a session 💪

Mark: I’ve watched several of your interviews regarding various Ironman wins, including this one. I’d like to know at what point in the race we’re you “90% plus” absolutely sure you would catch TH and get the win? Was it when you saw him in the Energy Lab? Earlier? Later?

I didn't really know that I was absolutely going to catch him until I was about 10 feet behind him and closing. But even with that, I still didn't know if when I passed him he would be able to hold on and challenge. Fortunately, the pass held and I was able to lengthen the gap.

Amazingly, this was filmed on ABC's most expensive cameras, which are no match for today's cell phones.

@@therealmarkallen thanks for replying. That's wisdom right there. I am 37 I still would like to full fill my dreams of doing a full IRONMAN. I did one 70.3 just under 7 hours. I would like to complete my a 70.3 under 5 hours.
