markcrilley I think what you could do realistically is pick a .wav file or something similar to put on your phone so you can make it sound whenever you pull out the black Prismacolor pencil. It would add even more hilarity to your videos. I just started attempting to draw in general and I was completely captivated by your videos. I've been doing nothing in my free time other than watching your "How to Draw" playlist and I post my progress on Facebook and Tumblr, and apparently I'm not too horrible at following your instructions. I even surprise myself because it has always been my younger brother who drew anime in the family, but I guess he'll just have to share his torch. :D

my art teacher told me a year ago the biggest rule in watercolor or any type of medium where you are combining paper and some kind of moisture (paint thinner, water, etc) is to ALWAYS tape the paper to a hard surface before starting. it stops hour paper from morphing and wrinkling and it will dry completely flat! just a tip. love your work so much, I've been watching for years!

Art supply companies really should send you more free stuff! IMHO. Copic even is not properly stocked at my local "Michael's" so i have found an awesome online art supply store that has everything and the Touch markers are super budget priced there so i just ordered what i need to draw the "dragon head" (video) you made. SO much i want to experiment with- dragon head-the koi fish-perspectives 1-2-3, etc. I did buy Manga2 and will work on that too. As a beginner i plan to just work from photos or tutorials, simply to practice and learn how the drawing materials handle. I am not ashamed to do "studies" of other people work as i am brand new to drawing. What i want to say to...companies like Touch, is i am buying their brand only because Mark used it in his dragon drawing. I liked what i saw of how it nicely layered color over and over and was "juicy". I do not have the time or money to spend on testing out 4-5 other marker brands to start so it really does help when Mark shows us what he used. (as i said my local Michael's really only had 2 marker chisel tip brands to choose from-all locked up in cages and not artist friendly to test, plus the stock was very poor or sold out of many colors, even the prismacolor black was locked up and not sharpened for testing)

I'm 11 years old and I love art. I feel like I understand art better than most kids my age. Almost everyone in my class draws stick figures and wanna-be anime. In my own personal opinion I'm a great artist and my class mates complement my art. I Learn more everyday from mark and other EXTREMELY talented artist,From shading to new styles of art. One of my good friends gave me a kit filled with colored pencils, pastels, water colors and graphite pencils. Now I understand how to use them.

Still, it is great to have some kind of a guide line to work with! I wasn't sure tho when you started talking about the paints you use. Are they acrylic paints? This stuff is great. I've used Bristol board for a while now and it's great. Especially in ink and marker. I also use the prismacolor pencils.

I learned once that the best art eraser is a putty eraser or just a piece of putty. It doesn't leave eraser crumbs. And erases cleanly on the paper. Great fun stuff that silly putty. 😂 a cool novelty toy that keeps on living strong.

Then i am 5 years late. 😂 Hello its kind of lonely out here. Where is everyone? Too bad, that such an amazing artist and professor has gone out of the artists limelight for quite some time . Maybe he needs a comeback. So newer generations will grow up learning from a master like M. Crilley also.😙

My favorite things to use when drawing are colored pencils, and prismacolor pencils are my absolute favorite. They are amazing. They colors are deep and beautiful and they go on so smoothly and blend easily, and they last forever because the leads don't break as easily as other colored pencils. I use my mom's set of 50 that have to be at least 20 years old, and they still work wonderfully, and I've been slowly adding to my collection. They are pretty expensive though at about $1.50-ish per pencil, which adds up very quickly, but they are so worth it. I highly recommend them if you can afford them. I need to start actually using mine more.

I'm sorry if I'm that "guy" but Prismacolor pencils are terrible quality now. I used to love those pencils because how deep and vivid the colors are and how great the blending. They were top-notch. A few years back, the company switched manufacturers. Right now, they're being made in Mexico and ever since they've switched, the quality went downhill. They constantly break when you try to sharpen them and the wood is so cheap and fragile. I ended up throwing mine in the trash due to all the problems I had with them. The reason yours is still good is because you have the pencils dated back 20 years ago. At that time, they were still being made in the USA which was great. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm speaking the truth. I've seen others say on customer reviews on art store sites that used to love them but now they dislike them due to the current low quality considering they're being made in Mexico now. Right now, I use Faber-Castel Polychromos and Dick Blick colored pencils. Faber Castel is more expensive but they're an excellent, high quality brand that doesn't constantly break. Dick Blick is good too. I'm just letting you know Prismacolor isn't the same as it used to be. :(

StrawberryLove315 is quite correct. If you manage to get your hands on an old set of prismas, you can see its quality. A while back, prismacolor was bought by a company named Sanford, I believe, and switched manufacturers. The quality went downhill from there. The wood casing was once sturdy and quality California cedar, but it was switched off to cheaply made wood casing that are dry and crackable. The lead's quality hasn't changed too much, but it has gotten less lightfast. If you look at the pencil like a bullseye, you can see the lead is generally off center, making it more prone to breakage while sharpening. The lead, being so soft, breaks easily when dropped and can cause internal damage. Because of the fact that the lead is not bonded to the case, the lead can fall out. Some more high quality brands like prismacolor: Lyra Rembrandt- Polycolor, Caran d'ache- Suprasoft (or was it supracolor, idk). They're easy to blend and are buttery and smooth, an artist's dream. Currently you call prismacolor expensive, oh no no no child, look at those suprasoft pencils. Lyra Rembrandt is fairly cheaper though. Another plus is that they're oil based, not wax like prismacolor, so no nasty wax bloom.

Ahh. I haven't really used very many of my newest ones, so that may be why I haven't had any problems yet. I love the old set to death though and I'll definitely keep them and continue to use them, but for new pencils I'll look into some other brands. Thanks for letting me know!

Honestly the only thing i wanted to know is what pens, and what is that white highlight paint he uses. I mean i doesn't matter much i did my entire profile pic in a standard mechanic pencil, and a black sharpie.
