@@mrbobspongeful Funnily enough I've heard the opposite way more: men age like wine and women age like milk. And I think that variation is true because what each sex values in the other is different. Women can appreciate a grey beard and accumulated competencies that men offer. Men like youth and firmness indicating the potential for healthy reproduction, and biology catches up with womens' ability to reproduce way faster than mens'. In fact, we men have hardly any shame for preferring women in their late teens to early twenties www.businessinsider.com/dataclysm-shows-men-are-attracted-to-women-in-their-20s-2014-10 And before anyone objects and calls men as a whole superficial, it should also be noted that women consider most men to be below average (something mathematically impossible) i.imgur.com/2MstAzl.gif

So you much rather leave salvation into the hands of humans?! The problem is, you start off with a false assumption. You think people do not deserve hell. God has NO obligation to save ANYBODY! The ones he does decide to save FOR HIS GLORY, cannot deny that it was 100% grace, and nothing to do with how wise, smart , good they were. The bible talks about making objects of grace and objects of wrath. Calvinist just teach what the bible says, whether it offends you or not. I was raised Armenian.

I like what he says about reformed theology being primarily scholastic and intellectual, as well as his point that for the "average joe" the language of reformed theology can seem abstruse and over-complicated. I'd take it a step further and suggest that since reformed theology serves no practical purposes at all (by-and-large), it should pretty much be done away with in the church. I feel that reformed theology has served its purpose, which was to create an intellectual break with the Roman Catholic Church, thereby establishing a distinct doctrinal trajectory that moved away from placing spiritual authority in the Pope to absolve sins and be a conduit for man's communication with God. Having served that purpose, there's no need to keep preaching and expounding upon reformed theology. We now know that the Pope has no authority, and that, because we've been saved by grace through faith, WE as the body have become the priests through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit--we have direct access to God, and don't have to go through another human to get that access. Reformed theology made those points, and now it can be laid to rest, because, as is clearly evident, preaching and teaching and defending and enforcing reformed theology only serves to make our faith an intellectual and scholastic exercise, thereby robbing us of being able to truly sense and exist with the presence of God in our daily lives.

I do not subscribe to any denomination at present. I would describe myself as a seeker after the truth. John Henry Newman (who began as an Evangelical Anglican and ended his journey as a Roman Catholic) once wrote: "To be steeped in history is to cease to be Protestant"; and I would agree with that assessment. This doesn't mean that one has to be a Roman Catholic, for there is Anglo Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. There is a greater fullness in Tradition than in Biblicism.

You need to explain what Paul means by "work out your salvation in fear and trembling"? You need to explain why Christians from the earliest times until the Reformation believed that salvation was a process, not an event (that's nearly 1500 years!)? (I should not that Luther wanted to remove the book of James from the Bible because it says "faith without works is dead"). You need to explain Jesus' works orientated view of salvation in the Gospels, etc. Good luck.

What does he mean "I got saved"? I'm sorry, but for me that is ridiculously presumptuous. Salvation is not an event but a process. "Work out your salvation in fear and trembling", as St Paul puts it. This passage is meaningless if salvation is an event (i.e., its happened) and not a process. The Reformers ignored innumerable passages of scripture in order to arrive at this erroneous conception of salvation. If the Reformers are correct then for 1500 years b4 them Christians were in error.

Heresy is nothing new in fact most of the heresies in our day are simply repeats of the ancient heresies under a different guise. 3. rightly dividing the Word of God. Doctrine, most of which has been handed down to the body of Christ from the ancient church leaders many of whom were contempories (spelling) of the Apostles who personally knew Jesus. Those doctrines are what has sustained the church since Christ 1st appearing. When ever there has been upheaval in the body of Christ it has been because a person or group has tried to do away with or alter doctrine. When that occurs it is called heresy.

(1) It depends what you mean by "fully inspired"? I do not believe that the books of the Bible were dictated by God. The Bible is the Word of God but only to the extent that it records revelatory experiences beyond the full expression of the human author. (2) It is very difficult to maintain the Chalcedonian understanding of Jesus on the basis of the NT texts alone. "Sola scriptura" won't suffice. (3) I think it is possible; but I do not claim to know.

applyingdoctrine, I've been discussing this issue with my friends. I don't think Calvinism believes in a cruel G-d yet I see what appears to me as a conflict of logic. If G-d makes all of the choices for us and G-d choses who knows Him and who does not doesn't that mean that He in the end is the one responsible for who goes to hell? I don't think this is what you believe but I don't understand how it logically works to believe G-d predestines everything about us, without condemning.

I cheapen nothing, but Driscoll does cheapen the gospel by his refusal to teach ALL of it and to shepherd his sheep in line with scripture. And another thing, when and where in the word of God does it say that the church is to conform to the culture and society? It does not say it anywhere, in fact it does say "be ye in the world not of it". When the church becomes relevant to the culture and begins to look like the culture, heresy is just around the corner.
