He'd probably have 100 more goals if he hadn't spend most his time dicking about in midfield and defending for no reason, stepping on the toes of actual midfielders like Kagawa who had to play out of position because of him.

I'm a Chelsea fan and in regards to Rooney I think he is massively disrespected, fully agree with Mark that time will serve him well. For me Rooney is the player who I have seen at the Bridge that I have been most worried and scared about (and I have seen the likes of Messi and more there), in his prime with the AIG shirt on there was nothing you could do to stop him, the most complete striker in my mind. He also created such a legacy for me, it sounds silly, but through wayne rooneys street striker, that show really started an incredible love for football for me, also if you ask many people my age, including me, what their favourite boots are they will say the total 90's, which were famously worn by him. This on top of his ridiculous talent makes him one of the best players ever for me.

i'm a united fan and Rooney is an absolute legend, i think some are harsh on Rooney because after Euro 2004 Rooney never had a good international tournament, he was the golden boy who never performed in tournaments and it will always be used against him that yes he's england's top scorer but what did he do in world cups? 1 goal in 3 world cups is not good enough. also debatable life choices people judge him on, but i agree time will be kind to him.

Wayne Rooney... strange one. Alot of respect for him, a lot of love for him to be honest as a player. His name makes him a big media star, but him as a person i think is not really arsed about the spotlight. Dont agree with what he did to Coleen of course, but that aside he's got a nice family and you can tell he just wants to play football (and now manage) then go home and play with his kids. Most of his social media posts are either football related or to do with his kids . The thing is, he's just left a sour note in United fans mouths with those comments he made that time. He was half right to call the club out for their ambition, and I'm sure alot of United fans would agree. But it was the manner of the City mentions and stuff like that, saying he'd join them and so on. Also, calling out United in 2021 is completely different to 2011. Back then we had Fergie who could win a league with Anderson and Cleverley in CM, so the ambition (almost) didnt matter as Fergie's genius masked the Glazers not giving a shit. And as a result Rooney should probably have been a bit more grateful to realise this is the greatest manager ever, so should trust in what he does and if he wanted to not bother buying Ozil and instead play Anderson or Cleverley then he had the god given right to do so. But its more apparent that in 2021 you need the owners to seriously back us to be the best, which they only half arsed do, top 4 and thats allthey care about. So if a prime Rooney calls United out in 2021 we're not arsed as fans. But in 2011, the timing was poor really and is why it tarnishes him. Other than that, superb player and deserves more praise from the wider footballing world than he gets. Sorry for the essay Jimbo lad. x

In regards to Rooney the stats speak for themselves, achieved multiple titles, top all-time goalscorer for club n country, every manager he played under when fit played him. Had great awareness, movement, killer pass, low centre of gravity, quick turn, powerful shot. As a footballer he could do just about everything. Just a phenomenal talent that read the game so well. If he were in his prime now I still think he'd make England's first XI and probably be most people's first name on the team sheet. Just an elite footballer. Also he's an Evertonian so you know he's got good taste.

1:04:46 its funny because people swear by that the 2002 Brazil team was one of the best teams of all time. But what people omit is that before the World Cup, in the Copa America 2001, Brazil were beaten by Honduras in the QF, in the qualifiers they finished 4th, something 3-4 points ahead of 5th place which would have put them in the playoffs against Oceania. The mystique of that team actually grew when Ronaldinho became a 2 time World Player of the Year and Kaka became the player that he became. But back in 2002, Ronaldo didn't play for 2.5 years with 3 surgeries, Rivaldo came off one of the worst seasons in Barcelona and both Ronaldinho and Kaka were relative unknowns. The only two players who were looked at us consistents was Cafu and Roberto Carlos. And then heading into the tournament most people thought Italy, France and Argentina were better built teams to win. Well France and Argentina crashed out in the group stages and Italy got knocked out in that controversial Round of 16 tie against South Korea

Problems with Gascoigne started soon after his move from Newcastle to Spurs, up here he had his mates who knew what he was like and would look after him. In London, he tried to replace those mates and those people took advantage of him (cause as you rightly say, he's mentally like a child in that he was far, far too trusting of people). For his career, he should have stayed in Newcastle for some more years and then moved onto a strong manager. Somewhere like Barcelona with Bobby or United with Fergie.
