Backstory - Jimi used to be my guitar teacher back when this was recorded. He was approached to be on this since he was a very well known guitarist from the Newcastle area. He was really excited to sit with Mark and play for him. Jimi is an excellent metal guitarist and was a couple years into expanding into jazz. He was pumped to go there and show off his shredding skills to Mark. When he arrived the production staff basically told him he needed to change his guitar tone, use no distortion and slow everything down. The whole thing was filmed after these poor guys had their wings clipped just so they could sit with him so it's not surprising the whole mood was off for the shoot.

I met Jimi back in 2004 and he didn't speak too highly of the whole experience. Mark's disdain for hard rock and metal is evident the moment Jimi mentions his love of Iron Maiden and Van Halen. Jimi is a wonderful guitarist and a top bloke too.

a little late but watch it again. he made a mistake and did the thing at the wrong part and too early that's why you don't hear the part of the song "way up high" which is where he did it earlier correctly. that's why afterwards mark asked "was that where you did it?". so it's maybe not frustration but disappointment. it could also look like he's trying to hold his laughter but seriously though there's no way you can hold your laughter at that part.

Those dudes were very well respected guitarists in their own right who were established in the industry and with their own styles. I guess if I was on camera I would try to just take the criticisms, but I think I would be a bit worried in the moment that people who see this would view my technique as less than the pro standard I had worked hard to achieve, and my reputation based off of that would suffer. Mark was talking to them like they were learners, rather than this being a meeting of technical peers, and it would have probably thrown me too to be honest.
