He comes across in this interview as kinda shy, yet one can’t help but see a strong personality with a crazy rich experience and love of life’s experiences, good, bad and inbetween. Mark was an original in a word full of many celebrities who are trying to hard to be what the world wants them to be. I find that with social media and pop music in general, there is a strong impulse to create an “image” that appeals to as many people as possible… Mark was Mark and that’s what set him apart and also his passion for music shines through all of the darkness.

Mark's final line about Death in this interview is perhaps the singularly most relatable and endearingly worded interview quote I have ever heard a human being utter. Mark Died the SAME month and year that my beloved Mother Died, February 2022, an anguishing time. Sing Backwards and Weep had become for me the ultimate distraction. As a voracious reader, it it truly one of the best written and nost captivating books 📖 I have ever read. I have devoured its pages but the audio book for hearing Mark's distinctive, unique voice is a must for me that I have returned to listening to, over and over again. I hope his Soul is at perfect Peace. 🥀

I'm walking home on a grey, wet Saturday night here in Chinatown Seattle. I spent thirty years addicted to heroin. My recovery/sobriety isn't Mr. Clean Perfect by any means. I will eat one quarter of a Xanax two or three times a month and I admit to some acute social anxieties... I don't drink anymore. I don't inject heroin. I'm almost in tears listening to this man's humble honesty and willingness to fully face invasive and personal enquireries with the upmost grace and tact. It warms my heart to know that he breathed his last on the soil of his ancestral homeland. Beautiful, beautiful man.

I think Kurt's singing style became heavily influenced by Mark Lanegan, especially Polly Peregrine, Kurt loved that song and it came out in 88. He's the kind of guy you could listen to all day long. He has this amazing ability to really weave a story and he doesn't come off as pretentious and an asshole, like some "rockstars" do. A lot of the music he's wrote over the years cuts to my soul and heart, and has been my soundtrack to life. I called him a modern day Poe, in the way he writes these poetic and dark lyrics. Of course, not all of it is like that. His view on life though feels similar. I'll always miss him but he'll always be here, cause i'll be listening to him till the day i'm gone too.

I too met and talked to him after a show in Sweden in 2016 or so. I was having compassion with him, he was more shy than in this interview for sure, a tad asocial or kind of forcing himself to do those conversations. I outed my appreciation for the concert, and wished him a great rest of his tour. Another artist that I like and met was Dave Eugene Edwards. Certainly a different soul. I am afraid to not see him too often too… i wish for him to live longer than Mark for sure, but I feel a similar compassion for that man with an incredible musical capacity. Perhaps going down the depths and creating effect full music go hand in hand, but it sure is a tough combination to observe as a lover of their work.
