Study Kali, Escrima. Martial arts from the Philippines. Good exercise. Older people can do it. Learn the basics of the stick and knife work and the cane becomes a natural extension of your body.

THANK YOU fir doing this demonstration & showing these teaching scenerios. I'm an old fart and I use a "T" type handle cane. I can walk pretty good, but my balance goes whacko at will, and akin to Murphy's law...at the worst possible time ! I throw my cane's tip in the direction I'm falling in, and push off, & Regain my balance that way. Ive had folks tell me I walk just fine...why do I walk with a cane! They say thats a lot of trouble! I tell them it's my security blanket...Id much rather look loke a gimp and walk with a cane and have it ready at all times, than I had, crawling up it, from falling down on the ground ! I'm NOT a pole dancer. They understand. I have tried to get my hand used to a hook type cane, like you're using, but I've had Carpal Tunnel surgery done, on both wrists, Rotator Cuff & Bicep tendon Reattached to my shoulder, so my power ain't what it used to be and my grip ain't good. Can your technique be used with this type cane? Bill, from Tn. 🇺🇸

Have you considered some very simple kendo/bokken moves? T-handled canes can be very useful if you treat it like a training sword, utilizing the shaft of the cane like it were a blade, and holding the cane toward the t-handle with BOTH hands, like you would a, or baseball bat. That should do the trick.

I love this!!!! One thing I DO NOT agree with. Take a cut on the forearm is NEVER best in ANY situation especially for the elderly. I have trained in Filipino Kali for many years and even a pocket knife cut to the forearm can lead to excessive blood loss causing unconsciousness. Granted, it’s better than other vital spots and losing fingers but dealing with a knife is always dangerous. Well done, instruction on the whole, though!

Is he trying to teach a sport? I’m 74, not going to the Olympics, trying to keep from going to hell! I’ve got 2 of these canes, because I need one in each vehicle, so I always have one. Mugging has turned into a Sport, & I’m just trying to take the fun out of it. My canes are to give me personal space distance, in case of a knife, brick or punch assault. My first cane had all the notches & wide horn, which I dressed up with eyes & toothy smile. Very interesting, but an attention getter. My second one is the plain Oak cane, with the copper tip, for incognito socializing. My best defense, so far is smiling a lot, and manners & respect for people around me. If that doesn’t work, exit the area, and fall back to my concealed carry. Stick fighting doesn’t appear to be an enjoyable pass time, but if I can’t control the situation, I will do my best to end the situation. I still wouldn’t try to assault this old man, for sport or money. That’s why I’m still alive at 74. Enjoy each other’s company, as much you can, & be nice, you never know who you’re insulting. Thanks for the video, you had some great pointers in it!

Great seminar overall. it wouldve been better if these folks couldve hit some actudl targetd like focus mitts heavy bags or even stick on sticks. Theres mothingmlike FEELING the power of your weapon in order to gain confidence in it. Also you develop a whole set of neccessary muscles jotting objects rather than swonging at air

Please if any of them actually hit something they might break something, this if the funnest shit i have ever seen. This style is going to get them hurt even more. They need to learn real self defense martial arts their are many great ones out there not this. They can barely swing the done things. Its a SHAME they actually paid for this sad so sad. Thank you!

Senior citizens with no martial arts skills should not attempt joint locking technique's against street thugs. Learn impact points and basic foot work. Learn how to dislodge your cane if grabbed by an aggressor. Striking an aggressor in the right area is much more effective than grappling. I'm 74 and the last two big city thugs that assaulted me ended up in the ambulance from impacts of my cane. My joint locking days are permanently over.

You can't do till you see you can't feel till you have done you won't recall without meditation you'll only find things useful with the will to learn where do you start a circle ..........................its most important that you start but that's just what I think and it's worth just what was paid for it ................with that being said what's more harmful to act without thinking or to think without acting ............just thought from the dojo ........good video nothing staged just the way I learned it's always nice to have bodies to work with ..........though I wonder which styles brought this about....it seems most things are connected if you look closely enough .......

if Bruce Lee were alive today he provably qould be using the cane as a primary weapon. Of course EVERYONE would start carrying one as he wiuld srart anre craze just like he did with the Nunchaku Ultimately youd meed some kind of medical permit to legally carry one

There are much better ways to for them to defend themselves, if they need the cane to balance do to arthritis, bad knee damage, back problems etc. As soon as the lift the cane off the ground they are automatically going to lose their balance their are going to fall right down. Also if they have real problems with their wrist and hands the cane will slip right out of theirs hands that would be the end of their defense, also they do not really do actual real stances or techniques, like real self defense i am sorry not really. But this guy is maybe a little better then some on KZitem cane self defense.,not by much tbougjt, thought, he is trying.

Real proficiency with any weapon develops only with time and dedication. A one day seminar, this "Master's" cane, and a false sense of security against someone with a little bit of training and or street smarts and these poor fellows are gonna wind up with $300 worth of splinters from their rectum to their tonsils.

mike youre right one seminar ainr gonna do ya. it takes practice getting used to just swinging the weapon with speed power acciracy and dexterity. I wouldnt even THINK about engaging the enemy at close range at this point in their ttraining. When i took FMA stickfighting it took me months to get comfortable and i was in my thirties then
