Agree. And every high school student should be required to visit a slaughter house. If they don't care about animal suffering and still choose to eat meat, then we know who the serial killing scumbags are. When you see the suffering firsthand, you can no longer be ignorant and thoughtless if you have a soul.

This movie also pissed me off but because of a different reason being that I went to the same high school as Jaden, we literally know every kid that goes to the school we don’t have a a very big high school everyone knows each other, and being in the high school first hand i can say forsure that he wasn’t a out cast most kids enjoyed talking to jaden of course there was those couple of kids that would make fun of him which is horrible I can tell you most of his Trauma was from Joe people that were close to Jaden would say he was terrified of going home and hated it there he enjoyed being at school because he got away from his home life, that’s what pisses me off this is a Valuable story of a amazing soul like Jadens needs to be told but this is not his story this is why this pisses me off!

As a Proud Gay Black man I definitely sympathize with Jaydin an how he felt ppl don’t understand the turmoil & ridicule we face every day just existing to be who we are. Nobody asks for this lifestyle. As a Sexual Abuse/Physical abuse survivor it was something I struggled with for a while until I had a talk with God an came out to my parents an man when I tell you My Mom & Dad embraced me with loving 🥰 open arms . SCHOOL people are not doing anything about bullying. I follow someone here on Facebook and her daughter has been bullied at the private school that she was attending and the SCHOOL PRINCIPAL dropped her and, they're not doing ANYTHING TO THE BULLY because his parents are big money contributors to the school. So don't sit there and say people are getting more involved in bullying because it's not true.

You don't have to be LGBTQ as a teenager to feel like you don't fit in or be bullied for being different. Lot's of kids don't fit in anywhere and commit suicide because they're bullied. But I think that was the central point of the message Joe Bell had for teens and parents was to care and be kind. It was especially heart breaking that when Jayden tried to tell his father how bad his life was and came out, that his dad was more interested in the game on television. Most parents of suicidal teens don't get that opportunity and I'm sure that plagued Joe's heart because that was the pivotal moment when he could have changed everything for his son. Be the kind of parent that your child feels comfortable confiding in. Be the kind of parent that tells your child how nothing that they are or do will change or stop them from loving you--even if it goes against your beliefs. Recognize how rare and special and unique your kids are and let them know you recognize that. Some kids are cruel, but they learn that at home either because they're treated cruelly by their parents or because they see their parents behaving that way. So when your child come to you with a problem, take them in your arms, hug them tight, let them know how much you love them and that you believe them and then take the time as parents to figure out what can be done--then do it.

I would love to understand why a few people in the comments continue to bring up events that happened nearly 20 years ago. Those who have not done wrong in their entire lives may throw the first stone. People change and people grow up, nobody is perfect. I'm not defending any of his previous actions but all I am saying is, why can't you all enjoy the interview, enjoy his acting and leave it at that. It is a beautiful movie, and I think he did an amazing job on this film. If you watch the film you'll see that the father isn't perfect and isn't supportive of his son and later on changes his views. People change so stop living in the past and look forward.

20 years later it's still relevant because it still happening! If we can't look at what's actually going on how can we fix it? I'm sure people with guilty consciences would like it brushed under the carpet and forgotten but it's a lesson to everyone that turning a blind eye is cowardice! People fear what they don't understand and that is their own weakness to choose hate over compassion! It's important to live in the present and aim towards the future but if you can't be honest about where you've been then you're not owning your own truth :and your future is just as much a lie!

I have a 16-year-old who struggled his entire life with bullying. He has special needs behavior you can't see his special needs he has several diagnoses that are invisible. He has adhd, tourette's, a mood dysregulation disorder, sensory processing disorder, depression, anxiety, Oppositional defiant disorder, impulse control disorder and he's a kleptomaniac. He started having challenges when he turned two and as the years went on that he got older the diagnosis were added on. At the age of seven he would tell his teachers that he wanted to take a knife and stab himself in the heart to kill himself so that the kids would not call him names when his physical tics would combine with his verbal tics and the kids will make fun of him calling him robo, crazy boy and retarded loser while pushing him and kick him around. As the years went on the diagnoses were piled on he started therapy at the age of 8 and I had to advocate and that was a struggle to have to go to the school to ask them to watch the other children because Joshua was getting picked on and bullied and nobody would see that. Even one time when Joshua was in the middle of class one of the students behind him took a pair of scissors and took out clumps of hair. I again went to the principal's office and demanded to talk to her and ask for the conversation to be recorded to protect myself and my son she laughed in my face and denied a conversation with her. When my son went to middle school he still had all these diagnoses and mental health challenges and that principal there said that if I wanted to take my son out of his school to go to the school where the psychologist went to that would be fine with him. There was a psychologist at that school that took the time and paid attention and really listen to my son and what he had to say. I was in the middle of an IEP meeting with people from the school district in that meeting as I pretty much demanded somebody else be there and when I had mentioned that my son really missed the psychologist that's when this principal said well why don't you take your son out of the school and go follow the psychologist to the school to where he went. I was appalled and hurt and broke down crying in the middle of the IEP meeting. Also at this particular middle school children were physically beating him up and continued to barrage and make fun of him and lock him in the bathroom turn the lights off many many things. This psychologist ended up running after my son to tackle him before he got hit by a car in the street . That was how much pain my son was in and everybody saw it at that school and didn't do a damn thing about it . I am appalled at how many of the staff and administration in the school districts don't care about our children. My son tries to make friends he can't. My son tries to be outgoing he can't. My son tries and tries and tries to adapt in a society where humans do what they want to do and if it's something different they reject him. My son tried to commit suicide by overdosing on his medications last year. In the middle of the hospital when he woke up he was fighting the staff telling them to kill him. It is not fair to try to force a square peg where a circle peg goes why do I have to cut the beautiful corners of my son to make him fit in that circle peg. My son is 16 now and he continues to say he wants to kill himself. He continues to not have friends outside of school who want to hang out and talk to him. I am a single mother struggling with chronic pain on disability and unlimited income and I'm doing the best that I can. My son acts out he's had police contact and I'm scared of what is going to happen to him because many times he doesn't understand social cues and if he gets disregulated and something happens he might get shot or tasered. I don't have the resources I don't have the funds to get him in a program where they would help him. All I do is sit there and cry in the middle of the night and watch him sleep and to hear him breathe just like I did when he was a newborn. My son is musically inclined he sings he dances traditional Mexican dancing he plays instruments but everywhere that has those opportunities need money. It's not fair, it's not right, and our most beautiful children who wake up every single day just like the beautiful boy in the movie Joe Bell with such spirit and the light shining so bright around him get up every day to do the same thing and go through their trials and tribulations and their sadness and isolation everyday. Our children are so strong and Valiant and brave and every day from the depths of their Darkness they get up and they do it again and they rise like the Phoenix to do it all over again. I'm glad this movie came out because people need to be made aware that this is happening to many children. I don't have the life that I wish I could have for my son but I still walk with him I still walk every step of the way with him by his side despite what he says to me despite what he does to me despite how he lashes out in anger at me. And every time my son still tells me that he is a bad kid that he just wants to die I tell him no baby because my heart would break in half and I don't want to hurt that much. I make sure to tell him he is my world and he is the best thing that has ever happened to me . I do the best that I can but it's just really hard doing it on my own with no child support going through chronic and physical pain myself. My mother died 14 years ago my brother died 4 years ago and my father died last year and in between from when my mother died and from when my father died I personally had 30 people that I knew that had passed away from the ages of five up to the age of 85. My life is my son and I will continue to advocate for equality, special education, inclusion, mental health, fundings and for wait lists to be shortened for our children to get into the programs that they need to survive. Thank you for making this movie and I'm hoping that there will be more to come regarding areas where children suffer. Thank you so much. Mark I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. To be honest just like in the movie when I saw you having conversations with your son in the movie I have conversations like that with the friends that I've lost with my mother with my father and with my brother. I know that loss all too well and it doesn't go away but with time it gets easier to carry that suitcase of sadness and desperation around with you.

I grew up in La Grande Oregon I went to high school at La Grande High School. I had to deal with my fair share of bullying there especially being transgender and pansexual period on top of that having high functioning autism. As soon as I graduated in 1999 I got the hell out but I still occasionally came back to visit family and friends. This movie hits way too close to home and I felt so awful and heartbroken for Jadin Bell because I was him and I thought about suicide several times when living there. I went back home about two years ago to see a friend of mine and as a transgender person it's even more difficult to hide who I am. I got some looks from people but thank God my friend was with me. As parents we need to realize that any messages of hate, come from us and it's not enough to practice inclusion- we are all asked to step in, when we see an injustice, rather than turning a blind eye and hoping the problems will fix themselves! Whether this is our story or not: we should all take this story from the perspective that it could be! Thank you for your efforts in opening eyes to a pain that many of us couln't imagine!
