Marques has a high ceiling, hits it miles, strikes irons great, hardly missed a putt from 12ft in testing and is confident around the green. He’d be a 3 or 4 easy if he played a lot. I play all the time and have managed to get down to 5 but he’s more talented and has physical gifts I don’t have.

I was going to until we talked price. I went with ping I525’s and gap was additional $208+ tax. F-that. I play vokeys and saved $50 over set gap and was hitting it today on the course the distance and location i wanted. Sets that keep that $150-160 range the same as specialty wedges than yeah, makes sense.

interesting to learn his wedge degrees. My driver and iron distance is very similar to his, but I carry a 48 degree pitch(145yds), 52 gap(125yds), and 58 sand/lob(100yds). been wanting to take that 48 to a 46 but cant find a local shop to bend it for me and cant afford a new wedge.

Ian, I get the whole idea of similar gaps but did you go right to 62 instead of 60 and narrower gaps? For a shorter hitter than MKBHD, would you start with the PW distance and then 50, etc? I’m trying to decide this now and decide between a 58 and 60 with 120 yard 50, and 105 yard 54.

~98 mph 7i playing at +1/2", here. I was fitted into 921 Forged for my skill level, and when i'm swinging my best im sure I hover at 94-96mph Speed instead of 98, but I definitely have it in the tank. My fitting showed that my 50deg Gap Wedge was better as one step down from my other irons (KBS $-Taper 120 vs 130), and then I'm using Vokey S200 in 54 and 58 deg wedges because they are more versatile than the more "boardy" feel I get from my irons. Hope this helps!

I got fit for 12* Vokey's on a course in south Florida. We generally have damp conditions here most of the time so I need the bounce. I've picked up a 12* Vokey wedge in a shop with those same hard mats and it sits very high and feel very different.
@stuboy13

I'm sure a wedge fitting off a mat would be great for summer conditions. Especially UK "summer" conditions - often wet and windy ha. But for many golfers, UK ones at least, playing some outrageously soft muddy parklands courses, fitting off a mat wouldn't replicate the swamps I'm hacking my 7th shot out of! No knock on txg. Absolutely love the channel. To put in perspective I play a 62T grind or a low bounce vokey 60.06 K in the summer, pretty successfully. But i think I need a 15° hi toe bigfoot or a vokey 14°k LW for at least 6-8 months of the year. We only have two seasons here!

In my opinion, true wedge fittings should be done outside. Not just hitting yardages and short pitch shots. Wedge characteristics while chipping, hitting bunker shots, etc. are important too..
@michaelhousman3606
2 жыл бұрын
I did one outside, but the one advantage of indoor wedge fitting is using your ball vs a range ball or even nice range ball to get spin ect.... Ball tends to be a big advantage of indoor fit

Yes, bad technique on the wedge shots causing that extreme toe down. Put the ball a little further away from the body, and learn to extend through impact and that will neutralize right out.

As much as i adore all these vids by TXG i thought this one was very underwhelming. I personally think getting into wedge fittings for amatuers is going a bit overboard. IMO 80% or more of amatuers would never notice these little tweaks here or there on a 5-75 yrd club. Of course you need proper bounce for your swing but why bend a 54 to a 56 creating more bounce instead of just using a 56 vokey with more bounce? They make 6 diff grinds for this reason. Case in point. Marques says he doesnt really hit to many full shots with wedges. Before tweaks he was inconsistent at 75-100 yrds. After tweaks he was inconsistent at 75-100 yrds. What changed? I also understand we are seeing 20 mins of maybe a 2 hr fitting so face value is maybe not final vision. I think clubs fittings are an extremely valuable aspect of playing your best golf and have been fit in last 8 months for driver, 5 wood, 4 hybrid and irons, but i draw the line there. A 1-2 degree tweak on a wedge isnt fixxing a poor wedge swing. A tweak to putters isnt fixxing poor putting mechanics, practice is. If you cant hit a green at 75 yrds with a 56 wedge you need to fix your swing, not tweak the club. If someone can explain what im missing in wedge and putter fittings that im just not seeing im all ears.
