He did the fist bump imo to signify that he finally got something he wanted in life, despite his circumstances. He was just himself the entire time, bared his soul, made friends in detention. Then in the end he gets the girl and she gives him a promise by giving him her diamond earring. He celebrates by walking home across the football field and pumping his fist.

The fist pump, in my opinion I've always looked at it as the first time Bender has had any happiness or clarity in his life... And it's his way of rejoicing...idk, I could be wrong but just my opinion.

Bender wouldn't just get expelled for putting hands on the principal. He's going to prison, especially having the troublemaking reputation that he has. That's why the principal was goading him to swing first. If Bender swung, he'd get locked up because nobody would believe the principal threatened him if he told someone, and the principal knew it. And troubled kids are usually targeted in getting taken advantage of because much less people are willing to fight for them, even when they are the victim...

FUN FACTS: This was the first script John Hughes intended to direct for his first feature, but Universal felt his teen sex comedy Sixteen Candles would sell better at the time, so it was fast-tracked instead. The woman and little girl playing Brian's mom and sister in the beginning were the real-life relatives of actor Anthony Michael Hall. There is no punchline at the end of Bender's joke when he's crawling in the ceiling. Judd Nelson made it up on the spot. Writer/Director John Hughes can be seen playing Brian's dad, when he picks him up at the end. Nicolas Cage and John Cusack originally auditioned for John Bender. John Hughes wrote the script in just two days (July 4th and 5th of 1982).

Fist Pump is simply this. I'm a teenager and what I feel and think matters. Don't Fk with me classmates, teachers, adults and society. Dont tell me what to do or who I should be. In the 80's we were starting to figure it out. In the 90's, kids leveled-up. Then a reset happened, again. It means the adults are back in charge. Kids, teens u dont matter. We give you internet, instagram,...etc. Now, just be quiet, play with ur anime, gamer bruhs and wannabe giga-chad. That fist pump is over.

It's amazing and scary that these exact stereotypes exist to this day. Maybe one day they won't. It also shows how everyone can get along. I was Bender but not sexist, and my teachers loved me...."This is what you get for spilling paint in the garage...did I STUTTER?" This movie...is just...Perfection. I was the punk rock long haired kid with the band and the beautiful blond cheerleader girlfriend. It confused a lot of people but we loved each other. And we loved that it confused people. Saturday school absolutely SUCKED I had to do it. This is based on a true story. In every way.

It's not really all that uncommon for young Millenials and Zoomers to not have seen popular early 80s cinema. There's alot of older Millenials and young Xers who never saw Star Wars until the 90s.

Absolutely, why do you want to see dad or mom favorite movie, right. How "uncool" is that. Right. Every gen wants to enjoy whatever is the "now". Except, the "production" of the money making arts(music, movie, tv,...etc.) know that the young, impressionable are free for the manipulation. Only true nerdy cinephiles will take the initiative to discover on their own the "good stuff". It doesn't matter contemporary or old(classic), good is good. Same can be said about music. However, just like the art of film making with music only musicians have the "tools to judge for themselves" what is good. A very difficult skill when you are up against peer pressure and the "machine" pumping out derivative music to tell you what is good.

Dude we used to be SOOOO unsafe with our SSN. As late as the 90's it was on our driver's licenses. My college ID number was my SSN & we'd have to say it aloud allllllll the time.

In my opinion...the fist bump. Was the kids winning in the end, in their own individual ways. That's an 80's/90's kid speaking from a broken home and it it makes complete sense to me. Poetically without saying too much literally...It's done perfectly. I may have stuttered

The fist in the air freeze... maybe the most epic movie end shot, ever! The 2010 Oscars, the entire cast gets onstage to do a memorial for him, plus Ferris Bueller and home alone kid! All John Hughes movies must be watched! He did teen angst better than anyone! He was also involved in movies that he's not credited for such as animal House, Caddyshack, stripes, Vacation movies, blues brothers. He was a fast and prolific script writer. Other must watch are, pretty in pink, 16candles, home alone 1-2, uncle Buck, Plains trains and automobiles! Judd Nelson is in my opinion in this movie, the all time best protagonist/ antagonist character, ever written! Just watch all John Hughes movies, and u will get the entire 80s, whether kid movies, coming of age, or even adult with Uncle Buck and Planes trains and Automobiles! Pro tip, when they are smoking pot, Bender doesn't smoke. He gets them all high, on purpose! The goth girl....she doesn't smoke for personal reasons she told the director. She doesn't think her character would need to smoke pot. Also, there's no dialogue in the script....the actors addlibbed the whole scene 😮😮😮. To add more depth....This is why all John Hughes movies must be watched! Including movies he worked on but uncredited for such as vacation, caddyshack, stripes, animal house, blues brothers... Bender is the most singular at one time, protagonist and antagonist together, in one film! He gets them to talk , talk to each other , and be truthful about themselves! Each of their lunches represents their lives, Bender has none. Also, Bender gets them all to do something they normally wouldn't, smoke weed. He doesn't smoke! By the way, what they do during that scene is addlibbed! Carl is the fully grown up and self realized version of Bender! Red head guy is Anthony Michael Hall. He had the most successful and longest movie career. He started in Vacation, and was last seen in The Dark Knight! His fist pump at the end, addlibbed. The principal also in diehard! But this cast all did very good movies after this. Anthony did several John Hughes movies! This, vacation, weird science, pretty in pink, 16 candles, not sure if Hughes did Johnny B Goode. This vast got together about 10-15 years ago at the Oscars, and did a beautiful tribute to Hughes passing. Type in here, the cast Emilio esteves is the son of Martin Sheen, brother of Charlie! of breakfast club at the Oscars tribute to John Hughes. He did an excellent funny movie called Stakeout! Hughes was prolific. He could write entire scripts in a couple weeks! Bender guy did an excellent lawyer type movie, a funny TV show, and was in New Jack City!

I love this movie. My first time watching it was at the end of my junior year of high school in Literature class. High school was terrible 😅 but I have a fond memory of just watching this movie. I associate it with that relieving feeling I used to get near summer break.

1. The woman and little girl dropping of Brian are Anthony Michael Hall's real mother and sister. 2. The late Paul Gleason😇 played Beeks in "Trading Places". Also, the idiot assistant police chief in "Die Hard". 3. "Ya got fifty bucks?" was supposed to be twenty. The look on Paul's face was genuine. 4. That's not Molly's crotch, she was a minor. 5. I still use the term "doobage".😎 6. Even John Hughes said the shattering window was a huge reach. 7. That's not dandruff, it's parmesan cheese. 8. I love Ally Sheedy. Personally, I liked her better GOTH.😍😋😈 9. If you catch it Andrew's dad is scoping out Allison as he's picking up Andrew. 10. John Hughes😇is picking up Brian. 11. Hughes used this school in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Uncle Buck".
