So happy to find this video, my nan used to make this every Christmas and I have been trying to find a recipe, perfect ! I’m going to surprise my 85 yr old dad and his brother this year with Christmas marrow chutney just like nan used to make 😁

That's a great way to use up marrow & it looks great too. That would be nice on burgers or hot dogs. Mmmm Thanks for the recipe! I make a yellow courgette relish with, red pepper, mustard & coriander seeds.

Thanks Marie. I used yellow courgettes in a similar recipe a few years ago but my family and friends seem to want all of them this year 🙁 LOL

Haven't grown marrows, Steve but this looks like a fine recipe. Maybe you could put some Shiitake in there. LOL Love that video. Have watched it several times now. Cheers, Rob

Just wrote the recipe down, thank you so very much for sharing, love to see how you made/make it and can't help noticing you laying that laddle on the table, there goes the fact that clean is clean enough ;) said in the most kind way not to offend. I often think when in the past great, great grandparents worked as clean as possible but clean was clean and since they were able to survive I think it's lovely to see how you worked and don't bother to a great lenght as some do. I do clean the jars tops with a paper towel but dipped into vinegar. Again thank you so much and now I need to see how I can make some labels as I do eh.... ***** at making them. Wishing you and your loved ones an amazing sunday. It's finaly dry over here so I'm off to my allotment, cheers xo. Valeria.

Thanks Vleer, Never thought of using vinegar to wipe the tops, thanks for the tip! I know what you mean with the ladle etc but if "nasties" can survive the boiling process we have no chance! Have a great weekend! Family BBQ for me this afternoon 🙂

Hey hunny. 🙋🏼 can I, oh lol you answered for me 👌 got a few round courgettes doll so I will be doing this, thank you 😊 och, just the same as our cucs /gherkins (salt over night) first. For big hands, your quite dainty when doing yer veg 😉 ha ha with the cider. Think al skip the apple/sultanas and just add peppers or something doll. Do the courg or marrows stay firm Steve? 🤔 the neighbours must love the smells coming from your place 😋 nice one doll 👌😁 hugs 🤗 x

Hi Clarice. It should stay a bit firm but maybe a bit less crunchy than Branston Pickle lumps if that makes sense LOL. I did a pickle indoors once when I was drying some bed linen on the stair rail. Yep, my bed had a funky bouquet to it!!! I didn't notice until the 2nd night as I was used to the smell hahahaha 👃👃👃

Love the “about recipe” Steve. What’s your experience with storage of pickles canned this way? As only one if us likes pickles, they sometimes stay in the shelf for a few years! Have a great weekend.

I am still using pickles and chutneys from 2017 so I guess 2 years. The vinegar and sugar are great preservers. I have some pickled chillis from 2016 but they are so stupidly hot that I cannot tell if they are still fresh or not LOL. Cheers guys!

I inspected the courgettes this morning and found one that had been hiding for too long! I'm a complete novice but I'm learning fast. What on Earth could I do with a monster courgette? Your pickle of course ;-) Thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers Tim. As long as the vinegar is over 6% acidity then there is no need to boil or vacuum seal the jars for an up to 9-month shelf life. (so the books here say) A different story if using brine etc 🙂 I can just see my tombstone now: "Here lies Steve, he believed a book!" LOL
