"They blew up Congress! Ha ha ha ha!" Fun Fact: The pinball machine that appears briefly in the background of the film is Bally's Harlem Globetrotters On Tour (1979). Final Bow Fact: The final film of Sylvia Sidney, but kept on the small screen. A lifelong heavy smoker, Sidney died on July 1, 1999, aged 88, of throat cancer. Practical Effects Fact: To make the Martian Girl costume as smooth as possible, it had no zipper or buttons on it. Lisa Marie had to be sewn into it every day before filming of her scenes in it could even began. Lost In Translation Fact: The film's writers were not sure what the Martians should sound like, so its script used "Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack!" for all of their lines of dialogue. This became their actual language in all future franchise merchandise and media. Music Enthusiast Fact: Director Tim Burton visited Tom Jones backstage after one of his Las Vegas performances to ask him to be in this film. Additionally, Jones' actual back-up singers at the time, Darelle Porter Holden, Christi Black, and Sharon Hendrix, played his doomed back-up singers in the film. Mother Bear Fact: Director Tim Burton called Pam Grier and asked her to fly to Los Angeles for an audition. She said she wanted to, but could not because her dog was terminally ill. He called her back several times and eventually decided that she had already auditioned by not leaving her dog, since her character in the film refused to leave her two sons.

_Ed Wood_ is Burton's best movie, low-key. Based on real Hollywood history, Johnny Depp plays the so-bad-it's-good horror director struggling to keep creative control over his project with McCarthy-era smears on his character and studio meddling. For people who don't like Tim Burton movies, I'd wanna shout that one out as being a straight look at his chops as a director that isn't a genre parody. Also _Big Fish_ has a special place in my heart. It's Tim Burton's take on the "old guy narrates his far-fetched life story" type of movie; the whole movie has a cozy bittersweet storybook vibe.

@@stanmann356 Right. That kind of made sense for the time it was set. If the Martians had lived in very clear or even sterile conditions for long enough it is possible they would have had weak to no immune system. However, this would presume that they also forgot about germs and didn't take precautions. It would also mean that Earthly germs could affect them or even survive in them, and that is not a given. It also presumes it wouldn't work the other way, too, meaning that the Martians weren't carrying some kind of germ that was either dormant or beneficial to them that was lethal to Earth life. It probably wouldn't work today since if they'd observed and media for the last 90 years or so they'd know about germs here and would be ready.
