I have one of these for about 20 years and it still works as it did when it was new. I've even used it for playing music from from MP3 players, smartphones, and as a Google Chromecast Audio huge speaker Via the AUX channel 2 input.

Couple of extra nuggets for those interested in buying one - the amp has been around for a while as the R designation (maybe over a decade) but is now sold as the D (Marshall AS50D Soloist). The significant change as far as I can gather on Marshall boards is the D is fully digital on the effects, has tweaks to the speaker and has phantom power (DC12v) on the mic channel which some condenser mikes require - otherwise it's the same amplifier and controls in the same cabinet. Some suggest the R is a little warmer because of this but sound is subjective and Marshall obviously thought the upgrade was a good play. I've checked again and we have bought a D - sounds great to at a live venue. We put a decent source into it (J45) which is part of that I guess. I can confirm Dave's info re the tone control settings - without this knowledge and used to playing an SG through a Marshall we initially set bass at 2 and treble at 4 o clock and the amp actually started to break up and distort (with an acoustic) but it wasn't pleasant or useful for a gig. We now have bass at 9 o clock and treble at 11 - perfect. On the guitar / Baggs we are middle both controls. Feedback cancelling, it really works as dave says and will be needed if you go within 2 feet of the amp. In practice we tend to sit a good 3 feet in front on a stool but have the cancelling engaged in any respect. We have had a howl at a live gig and it's not pleasant (obviously).

Thanks for the video - helped me get more out of the amp. I can comply on the quality and suitability - my son has been gigging through one of these with a Gibson J45 / L R Baggs for a couple of weeks now and it's solid and flexible - two channels both with their own tone controls and speaker. 50 Watts easily good enough for small venues, pubs, school halls etc - we are not getting near to full volume (guitar's own volume at middle). The RCA phono ports are useful - my son plugs in his electric drum kit at home - outputs this fine to give him audible without headphones (i.e. like an acoustic drum kit). Overall it's not too heavy to lug about either (unlike our DSL40C) Best wishes. Great reviews always and down to earth.

Pulled the trigger on one. Have to say it sounds great. I have only played it through the Mic input with a cheap condenser mic It really does voice my guitar very well. My guitar sounds like my natural guitar through this. Just a volumed version! No colour to the sound what so ever. That's all we ever want as acoustic players. This is laying to waste many many amps that come in at 4 times the price. It does what it says on the tin. At £225, it's a total bargain!!

Dave, whenever I'm looking for an opinion on a piece of kit and I find one of your clips - its happy days! I've just waded through four characters essentially reading the marketing gluph while gesturing towards amp with knowning nods and toothpaste advert smiles [groan, who believes that crud?] - But I love yours. The bits of info we need, the CONS, the good bits, and your mad humour that has me grinning from start to finish. Most importantly a real opinion. Background: I've learnt my lesson with lovely big amps that sound great - but then have to be carried from the car, up five flights of stairs, then all the way back again. The AS100 sounds great, but I'm an old fart that has a suspicious ambulance team in the background trying their best to look innocent whenever I lug an amp about. The AS50 caught my eye a few weeks ago. Nice size and not heart attack level weight at 16 Kg's, 2/3 of the AS100. Please keep these clips coming, they really are stunning.
Sorry if this was answered already but how does this sound with an electric guitar? just for practising and newbie. also will my boss rc30 loop pedal work well with this amp? thank you in advance :)

Hey Dave, i just got myself a MG100HDFX! Now i'm curious what cab you're using. It's obviously a 1960 cab, but when was it build, is it vintage and do you use the stock speakers? I'm thinking about getting a 1960A aswell, but i've heard the newer ones sound pretty bad because the speakers are made in China. 1960As from 1970-1990 are supposed to sound much better, but it's really hard to find those for a good price. So, what do you recommend and use? Thanks!
