Good to see the new videos Six. Digital valve amps….. what a headache.

I have that head since its release and it blows away majority of Marshall’s and other similar amps away. I love the tubes in the thing and that what puts it in the lead of the digital/SS amps of today. Mine still works and plays next to my 73 Super Lead, 84 JCM800, and searching for a 26/50 that will soon be in the collection. My point it 95% of people who see bands dont give a damn about the guys of an amp. They want it to sound good; this smp does exactly that. You should become familiar with an amp before you attempt to do a review.

I literally know the amp inside and out. Also, I’ve been a gigging and touring musician and audio engineer. These are a terrible sounding, unreliable amp. They came out to compete with the superior Line 6 Spidervalve and were half baked at best, and they were bested by the MG series heads. My job is to help people find the best gear for their budget. This is a bad buy compared to so many other products.

@@JocAn-ri7ey I agree. I have three of these amps. The 100 watt head, the 100 watt combo, and the 50 watt combo. They are fabulous. The tubes give the punch digital modelers don’t have and the digital preamps are great. And they are inexpensive if you can find them.

Jolly good, old chap! I've never seen one of those before.

Pray that you don't see one with any major issues. Think Line 6 Spider Valve.

Kind of amazed you were able to replace those from up top. You said it was through-hole plated? Also amazed by that, I’m pretty sure most modern Marshall PCBs tend to be single sided. I wouldn’t try this on my TSL board anyway. Nice work, glad it wasn’t anything too daunting.

I believe the TSL main board is through hole, the pre board is single sided. I've done it a few times on some DSL's.

Marshall use through hole plated double sided boards. Fender use almost exclusively single sided boards with no through hope plating resulting in them being prone to failure.

I think the customer lucked out on that one. It ended up being pretty quick and easy but could have been much worse.

Considering how complex these are, they were very lucky indeed.

If it were my amp I think I would just clip the old resistors out and solder to the old leads. I think I would be less likely to damage the PCB that way.

The problem with that is that the leads still thermally conduct. As you heat them up, you’re heating the existing solder and the risk of dry or cold solder joints raises massively. We never tack on to existing leads for this reason.
