I feel the whole "experts react" genre needs to watch other videos in the genre to see what does and doesn't work. Gameology definitely goes for more personality-driven reactions whereas other channels only have experts react to the specific thing they are experts in. Plus a long-running critique of Gameology videos seems to be that the gameplay doesn't showcase enough game mechanics to react appropriately to. Food for thought, still love the videos.

I feel these Gamology ones in particular really miss the mark. It often seems that they bring in pretty good experts, but the video they make is the most clickbait out of context low effort garbage that possibly could have been produced. they just drop the experts in with no context and then proceed to show some of the most disappointingly bland footage for them to react to. This Video should have shown some excellent gameplay from a highly skilled player that showed the variety and creativity of the plethora of weapons the game features. It should have shown them some boss battles, lots of dodges and parries, and lots of ashes of war moves, perhaps moved through basic move sets and discussed how they relate to the real world equivalents and whatnot, then have them speculate on some of the more outlandish weapons and moves and their feasibility in the real world. It was clear the presenters were knowledgeable and wanted to discuss more, but the format completely let them and the audience down.

There are 1-handing and 2-handing, combos, charged attacks, and ashes of war like the spinning slash you showed 1/2 of. Only pupper we cry over killing is Sif the Great Grey Wolf but that's mostly because of how as she loses more health aka as the fight progresses, she gets weaker and easier eventually getting to the point to where she's limping instead of her usual dashing, she's whimpering instead of growling and barking ferociously, and faceplanting when attempting her Spinning Strike move. And her backstory and motive for fighting you makes you feel even worse for fighting her and killing her. It was even worse for players like me who did Artorias of the Abyss DLC before reaching the area where you fight her due to 2 certain plot elements of the time-travel themed DLC story chapter that makes fighting her even more of a tragic affair.
@VoidedEmptiness

For Noah, the wakazashi, you could use it or a tachi, in conjunction with a katana, so the shorter sword would be used in your off hand while you use the longer katana in your primary hand. The style of combat used for two swords for Japanese weapons would be something akin to using Niten Ichi-Ryu, a sword style used by the famous Miyamoto Musashi.

I was really hoping that the player would actually use the spear 2 handed, where it actually has moves LIKE A STAFF instead of one hand, with no shield, and only using one stab move. He thought that using the spear in one hand without a shield and never blocking was weird, because it is, and just doing one hand poking stabs with no shield just looks silly. They were never even shown the fact that the majority of weapons, big and small, can be used one and 2 handed. They really couldn't have made worse footage to actually show the moves, because I've seen absolute novices who make better use of the spear moveset.

@@restitvtororbis5330 I concur. There's so much that they couldn't see... The versatility of having two separate weapons and hot swapping the one handed and two handed move sets of both to create a pseudo combo, and power stances sometimes give you a nice edge as well. It feels like they're were thrown in this a little "too much in the dark". It's nice for the genuine reaction to be the highlight of this type of video, but a little explanation in-between takes would go a long way for their own appreciation for the game.

What is the thought process behind getting martial artists to look at a medieval sword and shield combat game? Like, why wouldn’t you get a medieval weapons and combat expert to react this?

Well, Elden Ring, like other From Software games, is built with a combat based on animations and how they interact. Attack animation is not just a visual representation of you attack so it can cause damage, in a game sense it's your attack and its movement is tied with all the other mechanics and movements. So their games are built with a big variety of weapons and weapon archetypes. Sad the video could not explore at least a good representation of this variety, nor shields and two handing weapons (which cause variations on animations).

I think the Ancient Dragons of Elden Ring actually DO have thumbs. There's many references of them wielding weapons.

You need to do this video again but with someone who can play Elden ring, these clips do the game no justice

I’m no master but I always see openings in moves like this and it’s really painful to watch an enemy just take it
