I love fight scenes like this that portray a sense of actual realism. Because the most realistic fight scenes aren't realistic because of brutality, they're real because of their awkwardness and messiness, sometimes to an even comedic effect. There's a bunch of great examples like this, the Oldboy hallway fight, and the Atomic Blonde stairwell fight. But I think the very best example is the house fight in Season 2 Episode 5 of Barry.

Personally, I feel like the scene was heavily accurate. You're normally right, that hit in the head a bunch and stabbed in the side would usually be enough to keep someone down, but he went into that conflict both composed, and filled with rage and adrenaline, humans have survived far worse and kept going thanks to our adrenal glands so I imagine that with his life experience, and adrenaline fuelled rage, something like a pocket knife and a couple goons wouldn't be much trouble to deal with, as we can clearly see

One of the things I used to love about the old MacGyver TV series was that the contraptions written into the script had some basis in reality. That something whipped together in a hurry from scavenged materials wouldn't function so flawlessly didn't really matter. Every move here by the people involved is something you might encounter in a real life "knock down, drag out". The fight wouldn't last long enough to display all that mayhem and far more blows would miss the mark in the real world. One thing I have seen in the real world is the way people who are drunk/drugged can keep swinging after taking hits that would put most people down. The same with somebody on an adrenaline high who has taken enough of a pounding that the endorphins are starting to kick in. Not to this degree but more than most people would believe. (Never saw "stop requested", but have seen similar surreal moments.)

So this movie was produced by the guys they gave us John Wick, and it’s just basically is if John Wick’s wife hadn’t died. if John Wick settled down, had a couple kids and was just living…barely. but of course all it takes is a couple of idiots, to go in and fuck things up for everybody and bring him back. if you like the John Wick movies you’re going to love this movie. There is a scene where he goes to a tattoo parlor, and that’s when you start to find out who this man really is. the thing that caught me by surprise in this movie was how old Christopher Lloyd looked and Michael Ironside. I mean I know both of them are old but this is the first time they looked old. in the case of Michael Ironside it’s like he ate another Michael Ironside. but you know what? the man’s paid his acting dues, and has given us fantastic performances throughout the years. he ain’t got nothing to prove to nobody. In my twilight years I can only hope to be half the badass Lloyd’s dad is.

If we take this average weight, and the average swing speed (Which is about 70mph or 112kph or so), and plug it into F=M*A to calculate the force in newtons by multiplying the weight(Mass) times the speed (Acceleration), we get roughly 89 Newtons of force concentrated in the area of impact (That dude's face) For reference, the average force of a human bite measured at the molars is roughly 100 N. I really like how Hutch isn't indestructible or bulletproof like so many action movie heroes are, and while I wouldn't call this scene realistic exactly, it's much closer to realism and captures the messy, haphazard atmosphere of real fights exceptionally well. While many action heroes tank bullet wounds without flinching, never even get hit because the bad guys are comically bad shots, or fight multiple opponents at once while blocking all the attempts to hit them because the other guys are waiting their turn for some reason, Hutch gets hit a lot. He gets severely beaten, as anyone would, and sustains several significant injuries. What makes him special isn't that he's indestructible, but that he's incredibly driven to accomplish his goals, his willpower is just overwhelming, and he is far more vicious than we typically see in film protagonists. While I don't know that this scenario could possibly play out this way in real life, and can't say whether it's truly realistic, it's not much of a stretch. I can kinda see how someone with his willpower and focus could do what he does.

I won't spoil the movie for anyone. But this is the opening fight scene. He is an absolute killing machine. The reason scene is so messy is because he has been retired for a long time and is super rusty. Also, he is looking to take some punishment. This movie is done by the John Wick people. And while I like those movies, I like this one a lot more. Both movies are ridiculous. But this one, instead of presenting itself and the ridiculous, over the top action scenes seriously, it uses the absurdity of them for comedic effect. Still an action film, it just takes itself less seriously. Which makes it really fun. Excellent action flick. I have watched it many times and would high recommend it.

I think the same, the protagonist is not invincible and as the fight progresses he begins to improve his technique, also both he and the others got tired as time went by

what i liked about the movie mainly was that the fights look believable for someone his age, unlike those Hollywood action movies where they seem to barely get hurt from a punch

when in a street fight someone pulls out a knife or gun things get cloudy and someone could end up dead and then go to jail so leave two options to go or stay in the fight, this may be the last

You can see from how they've done it that he's not had a fight in a LONG time and he's SLOWLY falling back into his old habits through muscle memory.
