Another great demo from Alamo Music! Love this guitar! I think I’m on my way to guitar store tomorrow to check it out. I have the Martin standard 000-28 and love it, but wish it had an adi top. Love the lively response of Adirondack spruce. Add the VTS, and you have a killer sound. I have the Martin GPC15ME Street Master Special edition with the Matrix VT pickup. I absolutely LOVE that guitar! When I first saw the Street Master aged finish when Martin first came out with it I thought UGH!! Why uglify a perfectly good guitar? I almost let that finish keep me from trying out the GPC. I’m SOOO glad I put my attitude aside and tried the guitar. Believe it or not, I am now a great fan of the finish. What helped was I carefully rubbed it out to a beautiful satin gloss which brought out the beautiful reddish color in the mahogany. I also outfitted it with bone bridge pins and Waverly tuners which are so smooth-operating and easy to fine-tune. The scale on the guitar is perfect and the tone is wonderful across the strings. So now that I’ve discovered this new 000-16 in Adirondack VTS top and rosewood back and sides, and after listening to Cooper playing it, I can’t hold back. Can’t wait to check it out! Cooper, you’ve gotten me into trouble again! I should ban myself from watching Alamo’s KZitem guitar demo videos!

Hi. Were you able to get your hands on 000-16? How does it sound to you compared to 000-28? :)
@lindyloulie80

@@richieqin914 Hi. The 000-16 Street master is fantastic. The VTS Adirondack top is super responsive. The sound jumps out of the guitar with very little effort from the player. The 000-28 standard is a wonderful guitar which is also responsive, but not as loud, bright and resonant as the 000-16. I'd say the 000-28 is more refined with a warmer sound, and of course very much more refined in terms of overall finish. The 000-16 Street master is a great alternative for those who don't have the coin for the 000-28 or an OM-28. Oh, and BTW, there is a big difference between the two instruments in that the 000-28 is a 24.9" short scale vs 25.4" standard length scale on the 000-16SM. The shorter scale is easier on the fretting hand because the strings are a bit slinkier with less tension. Makes it easier to bend notes. The shorter scale also generally makes for a warmer tone. So between the standard scale length and the adi top, the 000-16SM is brighter. I would say that a better comparison would be to put the 000-16SM against the OM-28. That would be a closer comparison. Hope this helps.

I had played a friends 33 Martin and when I played the 000-16 Streetmaster it felt and sounded like that old Martin. I have been playing it a few months and it is a mind blowing acoustic. I'm 59 and got my first acoustic at age 5, so I have owned a lot of them. The sustain is remarkable! It's such an honest guitar. With this wood combo you can really hear the difference in string choices and even the pins. The neck is perfect. I would like a shorter body but other than that holy smokes!!!! I also want to add it's a cannon for real. I have been looking for an old Gibson and they will list "it's a cannon." Well I'm comparing them to the Streetmaster. The only guitar that compared was a 1937 J-35. That $16,000 vintage guitar really made me appreciate the 000-16 SM. Sound wise they were very close to my ear. And don't forget how the body feels when the whole box is vibrating. They both had it. Just so interesting to have a new guitar that feels and sounds like an old guitar. Verlon Thompson (google him) even thought he was playing a vintage guitar with it. kzitem.info/news/bejne/k66p05OtrGZnhI4

I own a 000-15M now for about 2.5 years and I love it to death! Very sweet sound that's perfect for playing outside the bedroom when the wife's asleep. I was at the Martin Factory for a tour this summer and spent almost 2 hours playing all the guitars in Martin's Player's Rm. I thought I would go crazy for the sound of the D-18, HD-28, or the 000-28 among many others that were there to play, but Man! I was drawn back to the 000-16 Streetmaster over and over again. I then checked out the Museum for an hour and went back to play the guitars again, and I just Loved the sound of the 000-16 Streetmaster. When I came back to Chicago I played another one at a suburban shop and fell in love all over again. I think this will be my daily driver and eventually and one that I can take with me when traveling. Wife says that I got to sell my Slash LP if I want it, so look for the LP on Sweetwater or Reverb! Haha!

I'm happy to see the 1-3/4" nut width (45mm) rather than the usual 1/16th narrower, which should help my fingers. 24.9" scale length sounds good, and the Adirondack Spruce top combined with East Indian Rosewood in a US crafted guitar at $1999.00 is a "Wow! Bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. I went into the store thinking I'd get a 000-15M Streetmaster, but hands down the 000-16 Streetmaster sounded so much better, more resonant, more dynamic range, more versatile across musical styles. And it also knocked the socks off a 000-16E that I demoed, the VTS treatment is well worth the extra $$. The 000-15M Streetmaster still fits a niche well, a rich sound with boosted mids that would be at home on an old 78 rpm early blues record.

Different sound on the Modern Deluxe with Sitka VTS. The Sitka, to my ear, is smoother, more rounded and in some ways more balanced. Well, I did it! I went and checked out this 000-16 today. WOWEE!! What a great guitar! It is the canon of the 000’s. It’s tone is fabulous. It can stand toe-to-toe with 000’s three times its price. Even if a player isn’t a great fan of the distressed look, they would be missing out on a fabulous instrument at a great price if they were to reject it because of the look. I personally love the look. Also, I don’t have to worry about it getting beat up at gigs. The response to a player’s touch is instantaneous. It is SO resonant and full-sounding that it sounds like a guitar twice its size, and three times its price. The intonation is spot on all the way up the neck. It responds to the player’s touch so well that one can play with a wide variety of dynamics without losing sound quality (timbre). You can hit it hard and it doesn’t collapse. Play softly, and you lose nothing in tone. I agree with Cooper that this might just out-sell the very popular 000-15 Street Master once people find out about it and try it out. The only factor that could work against that is the $2K price tag. Some buyers might not find the extra $400 over the 000-15 doesn’t fit their budget. If they pass on this guitar, they are missing out on a fabulous instrument. I have a 000-28 which is fabulous, but I think this 000-16 with its VTS Adirondack top will be my daily driver. It pretty much blows the 000-28 out tone-wise as well as for volume, responsiveness to touch and overall resonance. The VTS Adi top does it for me.

Many people are talking about the looks of that guitar. Most importantly I think it has a unique sound, that a 000-18 and 000-28 won't achieve. I played just about the whole Martin 000 series, including the 15, 16, 17, 18, 28, and I gotta say that the 16 and the 18 were my favorites for different reasons. The 18 has the glorious sustain and sounds like an orchestra, but the attack is slow and it lacks the twang. The 16 has a mindblowing attack, it's not as voluminous as the 18, but better suited for twangy folk picking. Staying in the metaphor, the 16 is not a classical orchestra, but a real good down-home folk band. So for me, out of all the Martins, it would be useful to have both the 16 and the 18 at hand, for different purposes. The 16 for performing solo in the folk clubs, the 18 for the studio and for accompanying singers other than myself. (The 15, which gets a lot of praise, is a good guitar, but doesn't feel as good to me, but it might be just my tonal preference.)

Great Cooper, as always. Any clue of what kind of “selected hardwood” is the neck made of?

On Maury's Music page they say "Mahogany" neck. Also, they have my favorite vids on Martin guitars. Alamo is tied for first place btw. :)

Very nice sounding guitar. I love Martins 000 series. I’ve never liked the street master finish but this guitar has some great features ( but I still don’t like the finish) I own the 00015sm and love it. 3weeks ago I sold my 21 year old 00016RGT. It had a great sound. Wonderful guitar and hard to part with, but not enough space or money to keep everything. Thank you again for another great video.

Why are the opinions of this guitar so controversial across the forums? Some folks love and some say they do not like it at all, not just the look but the sound, especially compared to 000-15m. I tried both 000-15m and 000-16sm in store, and 000-15m sounded great, but I wished more overtones, 000-15m had to few, much more fundemantals and little overtones. I just got pulled to 000-16sm as a magnet, even compared it to Taylors of American Dream series, 000-18 Martin, it did not do it to me. So I got the 000-16sm. But it still puzzles me why opinions about this guitars are kind of split into two camps - lovers and haters.

In all honesty, would've preferred the 3/4" nut...But, my D-15m came in set up, and plays smooth as silk, and sounds Every bit as good as the Really High Doller models. It's A Plain guitar, didn't pay extra for the " make believe" abuse.

Bought 000-16 1 1/2 years ago. I also have a 000-JCM as well. I bought the -16 to be the every day guitar. After a string lowering setup this guitar became the everything guitar. The JCM stays in the case. Bottom line this guitar plays and sounds as good as the JCM and I don’t have to protect it from getting dinged up. A year and a half later there is significant player wear which means I play it a lot. I take it wherever I go without fear. If it gets stolen it’s a lot easier to replace than a JCM. The 000 body size is bright so when I play with others it pops out. The guitar is light and the sustain is unlike you have ever experienced. It’s the guitar you will always play. Highly recommended.

where is the matching trim on the back side??? only white on front??? actually should be a dark trim front and back. I’d buy this in a heartbeat if the ascetics were normal.

Bought one last week because of the baked Adi-top w/ rosewood at that price. I have an LR Baggs Tru-mic Anthem that a vendor gave to me and plan to slap it in this guitar. Can’t wait to hear what that’ll do for it.

@@wheninroamful I do like it and enjoy playing it. As to downsides, it sounds a bit thinner than my baked Sitka Spruce & Rosewood 000-28 Modern Deluxe, but that guitar costs as much as 3 of this one. I’d honestly prefer not to have the vintaged/worn look applied to it but it’s growing on me. The action is excellent and it sounds especially good tuned a half-step or full-step low in standard and also in Open D. I play a fair amount of blues and playing slide on it in Open D sounds perfect because it reminds me of the sound of many of the early blues greats whose tunes I play and style I’ve adopted. The neck and overall size of the guitar make it quite comfy, so it has become my go to for playing while chilling on the couch. In short, it’s a tactile delight.

@@ronnance ive played in open D/ Dmin 90% of the time for the last 10 years, but really trying out standard Travis picking and country blues syncopation like MJHurt.; so i tuned i back and forth often and completely agree it sounds awesome open tuned. But i have a National steel body, so thats my main open tuned guitar. Thanks.

A Martin, any Martin (nitro finished) for long term outside use. I don't do it (I have a D16-E) This guitar dries out so quickly (under 5 days if I let the soundhole humidifier go dry, I also use a cabinet) I use a Yamaha FGX5 for longer outside use. 55% humidity,70-77F temp, little direct sunlight. Martin, love the sound but Oh so delicate. Keep it humidified. A guitar designed for street busking, with no electronics?

I watched this video when it came out and I watched it again a few minutes ago. And it got me thinking, because I love the looks of these things and I’m still not sure if I should go for the 000-15m Streetmaster, or the 000-16 Streetmaster. Because every time I hear a guitar with an Adirondack VTS top it sounds immediately better than its equivalent with a regular spruce top. However…, I prefer the sound of guitars with a mahogany back and sides over guitars with rosewood back and sides. Now wouldn’t it be great to have a third option? The option to have a 000, or an OM in the Streetmaster look, with an Adirondack VTS top and mahogany back and sides? The fingerboard and bridge could be either rosewood or ebony. You would basically have a 000-17 Streetmaster with a luxurious top at the same price point as these guitars. I know I would order one the moment they come out. ❤

What pickup would you recommend putting into this guitar... Went and played one..whilst I do prefer the sound of an ooo28 because its more compresed and slightly more articulate....I love how much louder a 16 can get. And I love the tone and EQ of both guitars. The 28 also feels more heavy and solid..where as the body of the 16 seems to have a more neck heavy balance weight wise and the body feels paper thin..which I love because when you play it you can really feel the guitar coming to life (much more than a 28).... although I do wonder how much of a problem neck dive will be. So I ended up putting my deposit down on the 16 over the 28...way I see it..I'm going to conquer the world with the ooo16 and Martin will offer to build me a custom shop and I'll get a 42 lol.
