revisited this video again. Ready to deploy my Martin Jerry dimmer finally. Won't be using it as a dimmer though. Just the other week I installed my TreatLIfe dimmer (tasmota flashed) for the light sin in the bathroom and a MJ switch for the exhaust fan. Will replace the TreatLife dimmer with with the MJ unit. Will have it configured to be always one. Will replace the dimmable LED bulbs with IKEA dimamble and white spectrum CT. SO I then will have multi-press enabled and have some setting. Default will be a bit warm light low brightness so as not to get shock late night or early morning. Then change to bright with neutral daylight colour and so on. To keep it simple, use main button to turn on/off lights and use the dimmer buttons to change the light scenes. Your videos have been a learning tool over the years.

I bought one of these last week and I noticed that pressing the physical dimmer buttons did nothing to the dimmer slider in the web interface, but both the physical buttons and the dimmer slider on the web interface would change the brightness indicator LEDs on the switch. Did you have this issue and did you ever find a way to make the physical dimmer buttons do anything?

The Tasmota slider on the web GUI is input only. Refresh the page if you want to see it change. It is really just for testing.

Huh, okay I was mistaking that as the cause for an issue I'm having. When I press the dimmer buttons, it's not sending a message out an MQTT message so my Home assistant instance can work with it. Moving the slider on the web interface does, however, so I was thinking the web interface wasn't moving at all. Any ideas why the physical buttons aren't sending out messages?
@digiblurDIY

The button presses don't send out messages specifically, it changes the dimmer value. You should see on the TASMOTA console when pressing the buttons the dimmer value changing. SO59 1 command will also force TASMOTA to send out updates anytime anything light based changes. If you aren't seeing the dimmer values changing. I'd suggest doing a "reset 5" on the console of Tasmota and then picking the PWM Dimmer module out of the Configure Module screen.

@@digiblurDIY Thanks soing SO59 1 was the ticket, until I did that the button presses would update the web gui, but wouldn't send out updates, but manually moving the slider on the web gui would send out updates. These martin jerry devices are great, until they are not. I replaced about 35 switches in my house with these. All was great until suddenly one day they all disconnected from the network at the same time. Local control of the light stopped working and they created a large pile of mini access points pretty much making a wifi storm so none of them could reconnect. I have to flip circuit breakers and bring them back one circuit at a time. When this happened while I was on a work trip, it was the end of these switches.

If you were able to bring them back one at a time then they didn't default back using the power recovery feature, sounds like a WiFi issue that wouldn't allow them to connect. I bet 35 of them wouldn't last long on eBay being preflashed.

Same here, reliability is top priority for me. That’s why I tend to avoid pre made stuff and usually I design and build my own (I’m an electronic engineer). The ESP chip itself is very reliable, also is Tasmota, very stable. Usually the tiny power sources designed with low cost as priority, and built to fit inside very small boxes are the problem, only second to poor WiFi setups. My current solution are multi channel boards (24V DC inputs, relay outputs, triac outputs, 12V PWM outputs) with Olimex ESP32-PoE boards plugged in and running Tasmota. Connection is Ethernet, no WiFi.

No dimmers in my setups, I use regular momentary switches. I designed a small PCB with a 4 pin screw header on one side, and a RJ45 jack on the other side. The 4 pin connector feeds 24VDC for up to three switches, and the other 3 pins receive the signal from the contacts. A CAT-5 cable routes the signals to a breakout board with RJ45 jacks and screw headers, and from this to the 24VDC input boards.

Roll back all the way to 7.2, reset 5, work my way back up the firmware ladder- no luck I have a feeling its something silly that I'm missing...I have a few switches and some of them I upgraded just fine and the power switch works. But then I have a few that are doing this. Any help is appreciated!

Not really sure there as that was the exact thing that usually fixes them is reset 5. Usually the problem is the buttons don't do anything due to being decoupled. They shouid work fine on 12.x though. After a reset 5 you just pick PWM Dimmer module and it shouid work. Some times you do need to adjust the dimmerrange based on the bulbs used but that varies. Ledtable 0 is sometimes needed as all bases on the buibs. But power should turn it off and on along with hearing the click of the relay.

Recently ordered the 3-way dimmer version of this from Amazon and it looks like the chip has model STD0X. Guessing the only option for flashing Tasmota is to replace the chip with an ESP8266. Really bummed out about this as I have several of the 1-way dimmers and they all had the ESP8266 and were easy to flash Tasmota. I am comfortable enough with soldering to be able to hook up and flash my other dimmers, but not sure I am up to actually removing the chip and replacing. There is also a sizable blob of hot glue holding down the wires attached to the board and that blob of glue covers several of the legs of the chip on one side. Not sure if all of this was by design to prevent replacing the chip, but it is disappointing nonetheless. As the man says, I'm trying to keep my sh*t out the cloud.
@digiblurDIY

The white blob was more of a stress relief of the wires from my understanding. Not anything dealing with us as actually MJ made board changes and Tasmota docs for us after my bit of nagging over the years. But alas they were forced to change the chip by Tuya not using ESP anymore. I would just use two single pole dimmers in a devgroup like I showed in some more recent videos. Cheaper and more features.
