Martin Short was flat out BRILLIANT in this episode. Played the role of a phony 'psychic' who turned out to be a sick, sadistic, evil guy who preyed on young women, & then on top of that, his wife was his accomplice. Like Tim Curry in the original TV production of It. Made a great Pennywise.
Because subconsciously, you’re expecting the opposite from them based on prior associations. It’s a nice tactic; cast someone unserious in a very serious role and watch people’s skin crawl because it’s upsetting their internal perception that someone funny and familiar could never be a monster. It makes you so uncomfortable because subconsciously it’s raising a useful red flag.
