You are incorrect, the Cubs (Originally named the Chicago White Stockings est. 1870) and the Braves are the longest tenured members of the National League. The Chicago franchise president William Hulbert, prior to the 1876 season lead the effort to found the National League. The Cubs and Braves (Originally the Boston Red Hats/Boston Red Stockings/Boston Bean Eaters/Boston Braves est. 1871) are the two teams that have been members of the National League for the entire existence of what MLB recognize as professional baseball. Also, the Reds did not leave the National League, they were kicked out in 1879.

The Phillies have had the same name in the same city since 1885.Let's put it that way.

That still makes the Braves and Cubs older. The Cubs being the oldest franchise to never relocate from there original city. The Braves are the franchise that have played the most seasons, because the Cubs were unable to play the 1872, 1873 and 1874 seasons after the City of Chicago was destroyed after the Great Fire in 1871. The official name of the Cubs is "The Chicago National League Ball Club LLC, which was incorporated in 1876. The name White Stockings, Orphans, Colts and finally Cubs were actually nicknames for the team. The team didn't even officially start calling themselves the Cubs until 1906.

The distortion of baseball history in this video is hilarious. The current day Cincinnati Reds franchise is not the same as that which was organized in 1869. The original Red Legs/Red Stockings, whatever, franchise disbanded after the 1870 season. The Captain/President of that team along with many of the players moved to Boston and formed what became the Boston Red Stockings in 1871. That franchise eventually became the Boston Braves, and today are the Atlanta Braves. The current Reds have no direct lineage to that 1869 team, even though they make every effort to say they do. When if fact they are the third Cincinnati team to be named the Reds, and were a new franchise in 1881 as a member of the American Association. The current day version of the Reds didn't even join the N.L. until 1889. The oldest pro teams in existence are the Cubs and Braves, end of story.

Let the people in Boston know that the Reds almost moved there after an unsuccessful barnstorming tour. The Reds fans were disgusted with the losses and virtually stopped going to the Reds games prompting the owners approaching the early baseball people in Boston about the Reds moving up there. If you want to get a ride out of the "beantown boys"that will do it.

@MowDawg I loved Joe, and feel lucky that we got Jeff to try and fill his shoes. For my money, there is no better than Marty...his "objective homer" style (along with the voice and knowledge) is just what I would always want from any home-team announcer.

@ezymorninrebel You obviously know little about baseball history. The Big Red Machine was created by Bob Howsam who left St. Louis to rebuild the Reds. Brennaman is a lot better than Joe Buck who will never be Jack Buck.

Nice tribute to GABP, to Marty Brennaman, and to the Reds past and present. Sadly, Winning baseball in Cincinnati has become way too much the exception over the last several years. Only Votto lasts from this ballclub, and he's a shadow of his former greatness. To top it off, Marty is Retiring in less than two weeks - Bummer.
