Not only is Marty incredible but this is some of the best drumming ever by Deen Castronovo!

I fully endorse the suggestions to check out some Jason Becker, Marty's musical soul mate. Altitudes, Eleven Blue Egyptians, Concerto, Speed Metal Symphony all magnificent. He was an absolute prodigy of a guitar player, one of the best in the world by time he was 15 years old, tragically cut down well before his prime by ALS. His work still stands as a shining beacon of the very highest level of guitar mastery, and he is still somehow composing new music despite the loss of all motor function. An utterly amazing bloke who definitely deserves more recognition among music aficionados.

Well now you have to check out "Altitudes" by Jason Becker. He and Marty were among the original artists on the 80's guitar shred label Shrapnel Records. They were first in the band Cacophony together (on Shrapnel records) before doing there respective solo albums. Jason was 16 when he was signed. Sadly, he was diagnosed with ALS in 1990, but has become an incredible story. He is completely immobile but is still composing music.

Hell yeah! I learned so much about music through Mike Varney lol! Some of the people I still consider among my favorite guitarists came from that label- Richie Kotzen, Greg Howe and Paul Gilbert among others. It opened a whole new world to me.

And, definitely listen with good stereo headphones, because there are several guitar parts in harmony and counterpoint throughout it, and it's interesting to hear one part in one ear, and another in the other.

Wow, didn't expect that! I don't listen to much "guitar god" stuff anymore, but that was very good. During the 80s my tastes really started to expand ( like you Jim, I even got bored with Maiden). I always had eclectic musical tastes ( everything from Tangerine Dream, to U2, Vangelis to Queensryche, punk to metal, mowtown to new wave, Windham Hill to alternative college radio....etc).I don't believe in guilty pleasure. If you like it, you like it. Yesterday I listened to Tears For Fears Songs From The Big Chair, and later Gojira ( Magma is an EPIC album if you go that heavy)while at the gym. I've checked out several reaction channels in a search for new music. I enjoy Lost In Vegas for the entertainment , Ruben Buijs for his willingness, and check in occasionally to some others that are good or fun. Your channel has quickly become my favorite, because of the variety, and scope of your selections. I'm finding NEW stuff, and for that I thank you! And so far, we seem to share very similar taste in music in general (the Ozrics!!!!) Look forward to the next video. Have a great day

Thanks so much for your comments and your recommendations too. This channel would be nothing without the suggestions from everyone, and I only bring a very limited selection to the party! But it feels kinda cool, a bit like the old school pirate radio stations that used to find and play the music that no-one else would! Yup, there's no such thing as a guilty pleasure, if you like it you like it! Cheers matey, hope to catch you soon!

Loving your "variety" of music. This is something I DON'T see on most/or the more popular Reaction videos. I knew about Marty Friedman "years" before he was asked to join Megadeth when most people had no idea who he was. I actually heard him for the 1st time from his band "Hawaii". I always thought this album sounded like a "Anime Soundtrack", and for awhile I was developing a Robotic/Mecha space-opera story to be animated, and I wanted to ask Marty if I could use his album (and tracks from Jason Becker's album "Perpetual Burn" that came out simultaneously). It never came to be but, it figures he was an "Anime" fan, but also of J-Pop and speaks Japanese fluently. I still listen to this album on a regular basis, as well as Jason's album, and the 2 play on the ASTOUNDING album (most with vocals) "Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony" (1987) which is almost as complex as Watchtower - "Control and Resistance" (1989). I HIGHLY recommend all 3 of those albums mentioned above :).

It is a journey, from the longing for a dreamed past, to the fall of ideals and the end of a civilization... that refuses to fall, to rise from among the ashes again thanks to the innocence of those who still believe in love. This song is a perfect stunner and I thank Marty for creating this piece of art. Thanks for the video.

Request: Missionary of Mercy by Pariah (1989) from the album Blaze of Obscurity (which is ironic in hind sight) This is inspired by things I was doing while waiting for Strapping Young Lad to exist. Search for the full album - this album is a hidden gem that you can do start to finish with the exception of track six which feels a bit lame (but still good). You could do track two too - Puppet Regime solos are off the chain.
