Can you understand? What can I write to describe the beauty, awesomeness, emotions and feelings that this piece imbue me with? What can I write to describe the reason why I have been listening to this masterpiece daily, for the past 14 years, sometimes repeating the second solo more than 5 times a day? What could I postulate as a reason behind the genius, magic, melancholy, and innovation of Marty Friedman? How can I convey that, yes, I truly understand what he mean when he says: these notes drip from my fingers as the lifeblood from my heart?" ... Yes, I understand it, yet i am unable to describe it ....

The story was, he was sitting in the hotel room and couldn't leave it (for what reason I don't remember - I think it was all about fans being too invasive) - so he was sitting in that room and feeling sad, he wrote this song. I love it.

He can't leave the hotel cause he was, in RIO (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and was raining a lot. He says cause this, it is a sad story/sad song.

True Obsessions is a mixed bag of tracks but still a good album. I loved Marty's two previous albums and couldn't help wanting a third symphonic album, that never came, but... magnificent instrumental pieces like Rio and Farewell make this album worth buying... a lot of different moods in it, and a ton of great guitar playing.

I am assuming that you have heard Inferno & Wall of Sound?
@Marctull66

Yes, Thank you, JC. :) I've followed Marty, more or less. I didn't buy Inferno, thinking this would be way too aggressive for me but I bought wall Of Sound - which is globally too heavy for me as well. I like some tracks but sometimes, it's really over-the-top in terms of loudness/aggressivity for me, especially during the first half. I enjoy some metal but not the extremes, not thrash, only what's most melodic and not too sonically aggressive. Deep Purple sounds like Vivaldi's sonatas for cello now, compared to most metal... Dragon's Kiss was my limit... It's quite heavy/aggressive sometimes, (Evil Thrill, the second section of Forbidden city) but this was different music too, and the guitars weren't as thick, loud, aggressive, compressed... I can enjoy Music for speeding, Tokyo Jukebox 1 and 2 a bit more. I didn't buy the third which I think was released a little while ago... But what I love in Marty's output, basically, is the music influenced by classical, from Europe or Far East...

Oh, thank you, JC. I have followed Marty more or less since Dragon's Kiss. But I'm not fond of the heavier, over-aggressive stuff. i never liked Megadeth, neither before he entered the band nor when he was in, (nor after he left !) .. not fond of Cacophony either. It' smore classic heavy metal but their "singer" just growls... I bought "Wall Of Sound" but many tracks go to the extreme at one point and it's not my cup of tea. There are a few tracks I can enjoy. I never bought "Inferno" : all the tracks I heard were very brutal. I certainly prefer "True Obsessions" to them... Tokyo Juke box 1 and 2 are OK too.. i never bought the third one... I can enjoy most of "Music for Speeding" too.. But I liked the classical influences, so I prefer "Dragon's Kiss" apart from the two symphonic albums "Scenes" and "Introduction". There"s a good prog metal album called "Raising The Mammoth", by Explorer's Club project where Marty plays as well.
