MARTYRS ROBED IN WHITE: Persecution in the Early Church and What it Means for Us Today- Revelation 7:9-17
The message at the heart of Revelation 7:9-17 is as follows: The idolatrous powers of this world- the emperors and potentates; the kings and rulers- may claim to have the ultimate power- the power of life and death. But they do not. Your departed brothers and sisters- the ones whom Caesar killed on account of their faith- live on in glory. They have not been defeated. Rather, in Christ, they have won. They now stand triumphant before the throne- far beyond the reach of Caesar’s arm. Caesar doesn’t have power over life and death. Only God does” That’s the message this vision from Revelation 7 conveys to the persecuted church.
The question we're going to explore in this sermon are as follows: Why should John’s vision of saints robed in white matter to us, the people of the twenty-first century church?
