This is a very strange comparison video which totally misses the point. Marvelous Designer and CLO3D are two applications developed by the same company, from the same core code base, to serve two entirely different markets. MD is for the VFX industry, and CLO3D is for the garment industry. Your video never even mentions the fact that these tools are both from the same developer, but rather implies that these are the two leading clothing tools to choose from and weighing the pros and cons of each as if they are from different developers. Totally bizarre.

As far as I remember, originally it was one software called "Marvelous Designer Clo3D" and much later splitted into 2 different directions. Actually I was pretty surprised to see that they are not the one anymore, I missed that splitting moment XD

Polar opposites is a mischaracterization. They are very similar programs tailored to suit different markets. One can also bring in any 3D objects as props into Clo, it is not restrained to characters only. Personally, I have found Clo more difficult because the end product does not stay in computer. Hence one has to design with consideration that the patterns will likely be cut as fabric and sewn into a wearable garment. There are a lot of details that have to be set up in order for the end product to come out as expected.

I’m a character artist and cfx artist and have used Marvelous Designer for many years. Clo came first and was designed for the fashion industry. Marvelous designer is a stripped down version of clo meant for the 3D industry. Its a pretty standard software for modeling clothes, both for games and VFX. No one really uses it for simulation anymore, maybe just a few small studios. Houdini vellum is pretty standard for cloth simulation nowadays with some studios still using maya carbon or qualoth plugins.

I have used both, I would say MD is a different version, not stripped down. MD has some features you don't find in Clo (like retoplogoy), and Clo has features you don't have in MD (like import/export, plotting options, and a different layering system (set sublayer), seam allowance). I have used MD for character work, but I've also used Clo for actual production of products. The upside is that files are compatible between them.

Ok, Summary: Use Marvelous Designer if you are the in VFX or Video Game Industry. Because it has better retopology tools, etc. Use Clo3D if you are in the fashion industry. The end. I even did not know they are made from the same company. It makes sense now.
