Love Johnny West! In the 80s these were made in my country, Ecuador and have so many found remembrabces with these toys!

Thanks for watching and commenting. I didn't know that the figures were made in Ecuador in the 80s. These were great toys to grow up with. Very cool, thanks again for the info!

Long established lines like Johnny West, Big Jim and GI Joe were having to compete with Mego and the market share they took with their superhero line (amongst other licenses). Being that Mattel and Hasbro created their own IP's with their figure lines, it became more difficult to compete with those ever changing features. Johnny West added the quick draw feature. Big Jim was reimagined (and repurposed) into the Pack. And GI Joe came out with Bullet Man, the Intruder, Atomic Man, and of course Eagle Eye GI Joe. All of them represented the final push (sadly) for those great toy lines. Truly an end of an era. And Mego succumb soon after when Star Wars hit and everything got reduced to 3 3/4 inch figures. If you were lucky like many of us to grow up during first decade of action figure creation, we really had a one-of-a-kind child experience that no one ever had again. I think that's part of the reason why we covet them so much. They never really came back ever again. Sure the industry identified and created a retro branch to cater to that older generation. But none of them really caught fire with kids again. By all measures, kid's sensibilities to play-time completely changed after 1977... forever.

Was worth the wait! Kinda shocked by how elaborate the detailing was on these, nearly 50 years ago now; nowadays you can only really see that much detail on collectibles specifically designed for adult collectors. Gotta love that distinct click the quickdraw does!

Thanks I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. Yeah I love that quick draw clicking sound! I may start a vintage toy asmr channel lol. For sure though, who was all the details there for? Well the kids... but also I really think it was there because Lou wanted it that way, and the folks that worked for him were Artists. Like, Professional Artists, they were making top tier art in toy form. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks for watching homie.

I just subscribed to your channel and I work at an antique toy store with several Marx stuff including Johnny West, if I sent you a pic of some of the western items would you be able to identify? I have no idea of all these accessories were part of this toy

Thanks for subscribing and watching. I'm not an expert, more of an enthusiast, but would be happy to help identify some of the accessories for you. I am subbed to your channel also and have been enjoying your videos.

Yeah ... What was it about the "caramel" bodies that were so brittle, but most of the other colored bodies never had an issue ?
@pescado121

I really don't know. All of my caramel ones are hard and brittle, and the other colors are perfectly fine.

Just bought one of these on eBay. Quick draw version. The head is loose as in completely off just resting in the neck hole. Hopefully the spring between the arms through the shoulder torso will be similar? Do you have any knowledge about the attachment of the head. I’m just thinking of the quick draw mechanism.

Hmmm... I don't know for sure. Mine is very tight. I'm not completely sure of the interior construction of the quick draw mechanism. The head is firmly attached on mine and both arms are tight and can't easily be pulled out to look at the spring or interior. Sorry that I can't be much help.

Hello, congratulations, very good information! I had it as a child, I'm from Mexico, Plastimarx made them, although surely not with the quick draw version, tell me something, are the hands compatible between Jonny and Gijoe KFG? regards
@pescado121

Hello, thanks for watching and commenting. I will try to answer your question. The hands are not compatible between the two figures. Also the hands were made from different materials. The GI Joe KFG hands have tended to become dry, hard or brittle over the years. There are reproduction hands available online though that look great. The Marx Johnny West hands haven't been affected by time or the elements and are typically still soft and pliable. I hope that this answers your question. Thanks again and have a great day.

@@pescado121thanks for the information, I found a store in Mexico that is reissuing the Jonhy West figures, I will try to get hands, maybe they can be adapted and it is a good option in my country for the replacement of damaged KFG hands, it is a bit cumbersome importing Cotswold spare parts. I'll be telling you results 👍 greetings
