The Diana Ross music video, "Missing You".has pictures/videos of Florence in it. The video's info says the song was written by Lionel about Marvin Gaye who was a longtime friend of Diana's. However, the music video also pays tribute to other Motown artists who had passed away, not just Marvin. So, Florence is shown in it, as well.

Prior to filling in for and later replacing Florence Ballard, Cindy sang with a woman whose original name was Patsy Holt. We know her as Patti LaBelle. She had a group called The Blue Belles. They opened for The Supremes. When Cindy left The Blue Belles to join The Supremes, there was already a rivalry, and the members of The Blue Belles did not speak to Cindy for years. I also want to give Mary credit for discussing Florence beneath the surface. I responded to another poster who said Flo needed help, stating that rape, back then was a taboo subject where women were blamed for this crime. Date rape was unheard of at that time. Flo and other women at that time were unprotected legally, and by society as a whole. When you have to suppress crimes such as these, you internalize and act out, usually in a so-called deviant manner. I'm a social worker and have seen many girls and women who were molested act out by substance abuse, sexual promiscuity and in other ways because they weren't heard. Also, the music business is a cold business. All they care about is making money.

@@donalddavis6689 Diane did set up a trust fund for Flo's 3 kids. $10,000 each kid, but when the kids became of age they said the money was not there. Where did the money go? I believe Diane tried to pay off Flo's mortgage, but Flo's husband Tommy wanted Diane to write the check out in his name and Diane would not do that, because Diane and Mary did not trust Flo's husband. He would have cashed the check and kept the money. I am not sure but I think Diane tried calling Flo and Flo would not answer the phone. I don't even think they had answering machines back then. I think Mary said in her book Dreamgirls, the check was still in the Motown vault. Hopefully someone will read this post and know the exact story. Lets be mindful that Berry Gordy invested a lot of time and money behind her that he did not spend with Florence or Mary. He was involved with Diana so naturally he made it his business to make her a "star". It was done at the expense of Mary and Florence. Let us be mindful that Diana had a very whiny, nasal sounding mezzo-soprano voice that was supposed to be more "commercial" and "white audiences" felt a little more comfortable with it. Florence's voice had personality and depth to it. She had the characteristics that would have made her star but Berry Gordy chose to ignore. If the timing and money would have been spent with her there is no telling to what she could have developed into. The talent and star quality were omniscient with Florence. She was a "diamond that needed to be polished". Motown had a potential superstar at their fingertips but never developed. Even though Florence was a backup singer, her star qualities still were obvious to fans and audiences around the globe. RIP Florence Ballard. Love ya!!

I believe because of the trauma Florence suffered at that early age it could bring on Bipolar disorder which might have made her more combative in her dealings with people like the very aggressive Diana and little Napoleon Berry Gordy and they knew how to pull Flo's strings, Flo was mistreated, mishandled in her career, she should have been allowed to sing "Ain't That Good News" during the Sam Cooke Medley stage show, then her two Christmas songs were shelved, being called fat when she was 5'7 and a size 12, even Gladys Knight is on KZitem talking about when Diana called Berry complaining that Gladys and the Pips were showing The Supremes up, so Berry told Gladys to come back to Detroit, I personally found it a little boring listening to Ross for a whole album, they all should had at least one song per album.

This was probably the root of Flo’s alcoholism. And then she was repeatedly stepped on by Diana and Motown until she could no longer take it.

Diana sleeping with the boss did everything to escalate her rise to the top to the detriment of the group. Of course Berry made sure that Diana outshined Mary and Flo! And, I'm sure this did nothing good for Flo's already shattered self-esteem and sense of self. I throw no shade at Diana,, though, because screwing one's way to success is a game that's as old as time... RIH Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard.

How do you know she was “ stepped on.” Berry Gordy ran a business. Hundreds depended on him. ( And yes, he was in love with Miss Ross. Says so to this day. People fall in love even in business. ) Florence’ caused problems for herself and others. Did you not hear Mary say” back then, People did not speak about those things?! ... Me AND Dianne assumed she was going to get over it.” Mary is doing a great thing speaking up; don’t try to poison that with ugly gossip about Diana Ross. She paid for Florence Ballard s funeral and helped her children carry on. Have a seat. And yes I am Team Diana. So tired of gossipy haters. What have you done with your life? Helped anybody? 🤔

@@jeanettesdaughter Do you enjoy making up false information? Diana did not and would not EVER pay for Flo’s funeral. Please provide a resource for that information because that did not happen 😂 We’re done here. You making that up already takes away any credibility you had. No further discussion needed.

Oh most likely. The support wasn't there back then and incidents like that were brushed under the carpet. It definitely changed her as a person. They could see something wasn't right but didn't know. The pain she must have carried. Poor Flo never got a fair chance in life. Mary always has done a good job at honoured the memory of Florence. They are together now. Hope they are at peace and are happy.

@@jeanettesdaughter Yes Gordy was a businessman but was cruel and ruthless. Just because he had a thing for Diana doesn't mean he should have let that influence his business decisions. Mary and Flo were pushed back and not consulted on matters i.e the name change to Diana Ross and the Supremes. Flo was kicked out when she rebelled and when Diana left, Gordy gave Mary no support when she tried to salvage the band.

Diana Ross has now lived her life. She’s got everything she ever wanted from music it’s sad that she still refuses to acknowledge the existence of Mary and Flo. It goes to show that all Diana wanted was the fame. She was like their version of Beyoncé in the 60’s

I wonder what the rules are for Diana Ross's kids like Tracee Ellis Ross, Evan etc...on the subject of Florence Ballard???? Do they ever talk about it with her , explore her past and all the stuff said, written and examined about Florence??? Tracee Ellis Ross sure chimes and chirps on about how much she detests Donald Trump and she loves to make examples of others she considers nasty...what about her mother and Florence Ballard???? I've yet to ever hear any the Ross children even state what their most favorite Supremes song is. It's as if the subject is totally forbidden in the Ross family. What's up with the silence there????
