I tried Maschine Mk3 for just a few weeks and it was enough to get addicted to the workflow, it is really nice, basically exactly the same as the Maschine+ I think. The reason I don't have it now it is because I cant afford it, so I thought about the Mikro, thanks for your review really nice. I think this one makes us a little more dependent of the computer screen, but the Mk3 also makes you dependent, less, but still very present mainly when you want to edit patterns notes and whatever, the mikro has the performance controller side of it still very present for immediate creativity and a lot of information in a tiny screen. I do have the Komplete 12 and I think this could be the way to control it. Just one thing that I always think is that is missing some knobs, as I think it would be perfect to tweak those pre programmed NKS compatible macros. Maybe I could buy a M32 Keyboard also but then, you are about to pay the same money as a Mk3. Well I really think they failed missing that.
@brunovalente2077

sorry, one more thing, and by what reason they failed to do a script for proper Ableton integration. I remember when I was trying the Mk3 that really putted me down, I think the Maschine Mk2 had, even the Maschine Jam, but not the Mk3, and apparently not the Mikro also. Another thing is why the hell all the lights are off in the buttons, you cant see nothing unless you have the room lights full on. They could have the inactive button dimmed and then lighted when activated. The Mk3 was like this, even in your video I can barely see the labels on it. Well sometimes the devil is in the details, and maybe one of the reason Native instruments is going down is beacuse they didnt care enough for the details. Another thing is missing in they big library of sounds its a proper labeling, why they never name the synths they multisample? Why cant you find a beat by genres, like techno, dubstep and so on, it is always by packs names like Carbon, Analog Dreams, Digital Nightmares ??

I can't believe the micro 3 is so cheap. You can get it new for $270. The Maschine workflow is so intuitive. Once you get a micro you will want to get the larger mk3 because the workflow get even easier and you don't have to ever look at the computer. Then you will end up getting NI komplete because it goes on 50% sale every summer and you get over 36,000 sounds. The only mpc I tried was 1000 and I couldn't endure all of the button presses. This is a very exciting and well spoken review. Thanks! Having what seems like a Maschine+ already in my S88 Mk 2, I wonder how well the Mikro interfaces with it. I don't like drumming on keys and so I'm looking for some pads. This seems like the ticket eh? Does the Maschine software "see" the Mikro any differently than it would any other generic pad controller? Also I would use it for orchestral toms, taikos, etc. in LADD, Damage 2, Symphonic Destruction, etc.

What I was a little humbled by when I bought mine (this also applies for the bigger MK3) was that it isn't quite as plug and play as their Komplete Kontrol Keyboards. What I was expecting was the crazy nice experience of an Komplete Kontrol Keyboard on a Drumpad/Drummachine. Just plug it in and your favorite Drum Libraries in Kontakt make neat lights on your disco dance pad for your fingers. That certainly didn't work which made me a bit sad especially since they seem to deliberately sort Libaries like Empire Breaks and Butch Vigs drums like a Pad. You are down to turning it into Midi mode which loses you the ability to use the Kontrol Features and then it's just a pad. Though it's pads are amazing so I'm holding onto mine aswell and hoping that NI will make the Machine Software as broadly instant compatible with anything like they did with the Keyboards and it's light guide and Controls. Since I am still learning the light guids make it so much easier to find the sounds on the pad for me so might not be much of an issue for everyone.

Request review (related). The discontinued Native Instruments Maschine JAM. Around $300…. About the same they sold for new…. Basically adds more hands on for recording or live working. It looks like it might be OK on it’s own.. but really is to make a NI Maschine MK3 or MK3 Micro to add lots of other hands of feature and avoid menu diving or mousing…. For your layout though.. it’s physically the same size as a MK3…. So if you got a MK3.. double it side by side…. And it would stay home…. But might be worth it. I might order a used one even though yeah I should get a MK3 for MK3 Micro first….

I think the Mikro just attaches you to the computer once again. Ideas yes, but songs are still a Daw thing. But, If you take the Maschine + and not expect it to be a 24 track mixing board, and continue to work within let's say an '8-12 track' scene mix.... it is more powerful that any other box out there. It steps on Circuit / Roland /Electribe.....and even MPC (for sounds). The ability to import all these new sound banks into the unit is extremely useful when wanting to create an instant concept. the price is big, but looking at what it does compared to others.... (not compared to a price range) just makes it fantastic. Where as Mikro, it's like any other usb cable slab.... you can trip on it :) ...oh ya, and with Plus..... it's wireless.... so even when you hook up..... there is no tripping :)

The Mikro is a terrible alternative to the regular sized Maschine +... The maschine mikro is a nice little device. Hope the mk4 will be compatible with tablets. Why mk4 and not mk3? NI could do some timing for things like power consumption and plugs.

I have yet to pull the trigger on a Maschine (though I want to). I have Native Instruments M32 keyboard and that is a steal and great at my computer desk. (Fits on the under desk keyboard tray). So how do you like the NI Maschine Mikro MK3 vs the full sized MK3? Missing screens and to me more importantly the knobs and have to menu dive or how big of a break is it to pick up the mouse? Since the full sized MK3 being 2.4 the price of the Mikro MK3... but same workflow as your loaner of the MK 3+? When I finally get one, it will be for my home studio, so I’m still leaning towards the full sized MK3... but the MK3 Mikro is very very very interesting.... oh and check out the M32 keyboard from NI when you have time...:)

Im going to use the mikro as an addition to my Komplete S88 Mk2 which has the same display as the maschine + im curious to see how they both work together as i can probably use the display of my komplete keyboard in combination

Awesome Video thanks. I am planning to buy Maschine Mikro Mk3. How did you make your Shure MV7 work with MK3?? It would be very cool if my Shure MV7 will work with Maschine Mikro Mk3.

I'm sure you could set it as an audio input in the software, but your need to plug the mic into your computer. In my case, I recorded the Maschine audio and the mic audio separately and sync'd them together in editing.

hey thanks for this video. So when you say its a laptop. Do you mean that it comes WITHOUT sounds and you must upload all sounds from ciomputer to it THEN it just works later because the sounds are saved? Im really new to all music devices. I dont really want to have to use the computer and would rather have presets.

Is there a particular reason why you seem to never purchase or utilize the standard version of related gear? You chose the mc 101 over an mc 707... Can you explain please!
@GabeMillerMusic
3 жыл бұрын
A few reasons: - I place a very high value on portability, so I can work on music on a whim anywhere (around the house, on lunch breaks from work, while travelling, etc). - When I started the channel as a young college student, buying expensive gear literally wasn't an option. I went for what I could afford/justify at the time, and that's worked out pretty well. - While the channel is doing well and I *can* afford more expensive gear, I am of the firm belief that quality music production doesn't have to be expensive and I want my videos to reflect that. Although I have been trying more expensive gear lately, including the Maschine+. - as for the MC-707... Stay tuned.

@@GabeMillerMusic Really appreciate the feedback Gabe! Also. I'm really hoping to see your approach to the MC 707. I actually anticipate your take on the MC 707 will be probably the best we've all seen thus far! All the best and thanks again.

Great contents again! Recently I wannna buy a jamming machine and I cannot decide between maschine mikro mk3 and circuit tracks. I know they are totally different machines but which one do you think better for jamming?
@GabeMillerMusic
3 жыл бұрын
The Circuit is definitely better for jamming, it's built for it... Launchpad style interface, easily accessible macro knobs, ability to swap between drastically different sections or even entire songs on the fly, ability to easily sequence external synths if you want it, etc. The Mikro can do a bit of jamming, but it's a lot less immediate and you don't have nearly as much control.

Big fan and also a big maschine user (the full not micro). I agree I think maschine is heavily slept on but also I think you kinda brushed over how many major issues the Maschine software has when being used as a DAW. I think it's a lot more than "kind of clunky" when compared to any actual DAW not to mention how awful it is when trying to freely move around audio clips inside patterns. I say all this cause I've spent so many hours in the last year getting maschine and FL studio to play more nicely with one another.
@GabeMillerMusic

Yeah I'd say the Maschine DAW and hardware can't really exist without each other. You can definitely use the DAW, but it becomes so much more immediate with the hardware, and you can map the controller to other DAWs, but it's obvious that it was built for the Maschine software. I usually like the make a beat with the Maschine Mikro and DAW, just layering with reckless abandon, then export the stems and arrange them into a full song in Reaper. It's an extra step, but it's not bad and it gets me the best of both worlds.

@@GabeMillerMusic I took that route for a while and agree it's not as bad as it sounds. Recently I've started using loopmidi to create an internal midi channel so essentially I use maschine as a VST in FL but at the same time it records all the inputs as if it's a midi controller. I have to be a bit careful to not accidentally trigger samples but it lets me use the scales/sequencers like a regular midi controller while still letting me load up sounds and in the vst to export or mute as needed.

Hey, do you recommend getting a pad controller and a keyboard? Or should I get a midi keyboard that has pads on it? I would be using a loop station (boss rc 505)

Just my personal opinion. There are too many basic functions that are easier to accomplish with a mouse and one click, that requires two or three buttons on the maschine controllers.. to make the micro worth it. Its basically a mk3 without the screens and if im looking at the software.. im going to intuitively reach for a mouse. The micro also doesnt include any macro knobs and i really dont understand why.
