I have the MK3, and work mainly in the Maschine software, but sometimes I do some stuff in Ableton. I got myself a Maschine Jam, which is a nice addition for the Maschine workflow, but also is a really great control surface for Ableton. Had both push 2 and maschine mk3. For me i still find it just as fast, if not easier to get ideas down on the push 2. Something about the maschine workflow just doesn't feel inspiring to me. I've really tried to make it work, with a ton of hours spent in that software, which was a bummer to me. I ended up returning the mk3. I really wanted to like it, but oh well. Maybe once they start to add more features to maschine I'll give it another try. Nothing to complain about on the hardware side of things, great pads and knobs, great screens ect.

I come from a Logic X Background and I am a Bass Player (and Guitarist) ;-) ... but learned Maschine for the last two years. I want now perform as a Duo with a friend. For simplicity we want to use one computer... There we stuck with Maschine... Because in Maschine every note you play is recorded on every channel. Using several input-devices played by two people simply does not work. If one person touches something on a keyboard the Maschine will loose it's focus on for example the Drums. That led us to invest in Ableton and Push 2. With Ableton you can perform with audio, Midi from several keyboards plus Push 2 (and even integrate Maschine in the setup in several ways). Another thing: I do not find a really good drumset for my needs within Ableton. And I do not have the time to build my own. In Maschine I found several Kits directly for my taste (which is smooth electronic music for grown up people). I know how to integrate them into Ableton but I am concerned with ressources when playing live. Do you have advices for real good electronic drumsets (Packs) for Ableton? Or... please make a new pack with yours (I would buy it ;-) ). I am looking for decent 808-Sound but with better kicks, very light decent snaredrum (rice snare) good rimshots, finger snap... style like Kalkbrenner. I am looking for a good and professional set that is "stage" and production-ready. PLUS: Thank you for your great work and insights here in KZitem...!
@LowHeatBeats

Thank you Winfrid! Good point about the live setup with multiple keyboards. Ableton is indeed much more flexible in this regard. If you have a license for Live Suite 11, I'm sure there are such kits in some of the packs, I remember using one that was called Subtle Electronics which was kind of what you were referring to.

Is the Maschine MK3 worth it for mainly using it inside Ableton Live? I know that the Push 2 has far better integration but I prefer the large 4x4 pad layout on the Maschine. The problem is that you are comparing two diffrent ideas! Push 2 is ableton controler and live performer and nothing can compare to its power in this area.maschin is a sampler and instrument that tries to control ableton but not good choice for that reason.

Not really, they are quite similar in what they are used for, just slightly different approach. But Push 2 is defintely marketed by Ableton as (and arguably more suitable for) a tool for creating beats and musical ideas, with emphasis on sampling. So how is that so different to Maschine? Now that Ableton live 11 was announced to release early 2021, you can pretty much guarantee Push 3 will be releasing along side it. I bet it will be announced during digital namm next month, and the reason they havent shown it off yet, is to get some last sales out of Push 2 for the holiday season. Push 2 is now 5 years old, which is pretty ancient as far as midi controllers go. I cant believe they still sell Push 2 at full retail of $799, when it doesnt even have an audio interface, and the screen is just lower quality compared to even Maschine mk3, let alone all of the other screen technology advancements made in the past 5 years. No way it costs even remotely close to manufacture for the same price,5 years after it was released. Just speculation, but Push 3 will no doubt release with Live 11 next year.
@LowHeatBeats

@@na-dj6ob I think it won't happen at NAMM, they didn't do that for the Push 2, maybe at the next Loop event? But I don't think their goal is to release controllers too often and the Push 2 is still on par with other controllers (except for audio interface, I agree with that.)

@LowHeatBeats
Жыл бұрын
Generally every DAW is great, but I've been using Live for a long time and I've never used Bitwig. Tbh, being more advanced doesn't really make your music better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a great DAW. But I'd expect that a controller that's created specifically for a certain DAW like Push 2 with Live to be more fluid and easier to use, considering buttons are labelled with the correct functions and the whole workflow is built form the ground up to work with that DAW. For example, there used to be a very good script for using Maschine with Live but it was nowhere near as good as the actual Push 2.

@@auroranamex5886 Yes, I'm aware about Bitwig bring made by former Ableton employees. In what way are these scripts on another level? More functions? From my perspective, I always prefer the more elegant and simple solution, I don't need more features to make music. Remembering functions that are not labelled on the controller increases the cognitive load and takes time to get used to. That's my main problem with such scripts.
