I'd definitely say there is NO need to add a limiter to the master when you're working on a song. That is because that is a part of the actual mastering process, and it can only be done once. Usually that is left for the mastering engineer - which can be the producer, of course, but by default, there is no need to add a limiter there until the final mastering process. I could see why someone would use it on the master when doing a live set, for example, to keep the peaks at bay, but with songs…no.

When you play with FX or velocity, it's possible to overstep 0dB on the master level. That makes a shitty sound and could destroy speakers and hears. That's why we always put a limiter on master during the composition step or a live set. However, i agree for mastering, limiter must be deleted to export song for mastering.

+SuperLinow for recording no limiter should be in place on any channel I can understand if a live instrument is being used but otherwise it will only muddy up a sound when it's not required Just by rule of thumb the faders want to be in the -3db to -6db zone to leave headroom for mixing & mastering If while I'm composing the volume is low for me to hear while i work I will put a multi band compressor onto the master but remove it when I'm mixing. I control the volumes via EQ in the mix & not alter the fader unless I have to Otherwise it starts to get confusing

To clear this up, people need to learn when to use functions. I think for the purpose of demonstratio, it was explained. But other than that, this shouldn't be much of a debate. Since people will likely use this machine for different purposes. People can learn the tool and what is best for each function. It just doesn't seem like it matters if the person is going to remove the limiter before mastering anyway. And since it helps in live sets, depending on how it's used, it'll help during composition if the person is willing to go through the effort of getting the right sound. If people figure out a way to do it, I leave it to them. I don’t particularly care for absolute rules, people find interesting ways that work for them and get the sound necessary, whether through confusing steps or direct. Others choose to conform. That's up to them.

Man I wish NI releases a set of controller just for mixing (like Avid's artist series). It should be really slick.

where is this avid thing, whats it called? sounds real dope. Im toying with the idea of gettin an ipad and using logic remote. i've been using my maschine mk2 in stand alone mode with a slightly custom Mackie Control. its great but I have a feeling that there are many more options. thats logic talk though. what you are talking about i think you mean for just mixing in Maschine Software. still sounds dope

I did exactly the steps involved, but I do not see an automation line as shown in this video. Where do I find that?
