The Fig Tree Crossing area on Mashatu is a leopard hotspot. It's one of the few places in the river where animals, especially impalas, can come and drink when the rest of Mashatu is dry.
Various individual leopard territories meet, and home ranges overlap here. Mathoja, an older female leopard, is currently the queen in this part. She needs to regularly mark trees and bushes to reinforce her presence.
