This was great. I’ve been microwaving a long time. I nuke my potato same as for baked; chop in half, holding top of potatoes I twist and whole skin comes off. Cut up, mash,(milk, butter, etc...) garnish...yummy mashed spuds.

Hi 👋🏻 Mike! TYFS - I always appreciate a good cooking tip! 🙄 I did have to laugh 😂 when one of the very first things you mentioned was about instant mashed potatoes, you & my husband seem to be of the same school of thought, that being they’re not “real” potatoes 🤦🏻♀️. I’m sure somewhere on the package it’s says real potatoes. I believe it’s more of a texture issue as the dried instant potato flakes make a very smooth mashed potato. So, just to be sure, 🤓 I visited google & looked up Idahoan Potatoes, & yes on the package it says made with 100% Idaho potatoes, I then looked at the ingredients, the first is potatoes 🥔, yes it includes some powdered milk & other “stabilizers” but, they are real potatoes. When one is in a hurry trying to get dinner on the table the pouch of potatoes is extremely helpful, when making a Sunday or Holiday dinner peeling & chopping it is 🤷🏻♀️. I hope that you & your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi Ann, welcome back. It's always nice to hear from you. Your story about instant mashed potatoes reminds me of advertising claims by Verizon FiOS. I don't know if they still do but they used to say 100% fiber. When the guy was installing it, I said how do you run the fiber into my house. He said we don't, we use regular cable, the fiber stops at our box outside your house. It's kind of like that. I agree with your husband, there is no substitute for real mashed potatoes. Thanks for your feedback, Mike 🧔

I use instant mashed potatoes for the convenience. I don't want to take this much time prepping potatoes for a weeknight meal. I prepare real mashed potatoes using Yukon gold's for special occasions i.e. invited guests or holidays.

Well obviously the recommended method in the video is not for everyone. I agree with you that there are some really good instant mashed potato brands on the market. Mike

Real are best, but only Idahoan are 2nd best! And your using the wrong masher! The other kind works the best for no lump mashed potatoes. I’ve had many compliments from friends & by boyfriends over the years. One told me I needed to teach his mom how to make them.
