Hi there!
Welcome to the next episode of our annual Countdown to Halloween! This week, we're making the Dragon Mask from Marvel's „Shang Chi“!
This was originally planned to be mask number 2 on our Countdown, but since it fought me so much it had to switch places with last week's mask and come out a week (and a day) later.
I have to admit, I hated making this mask.
Seriously. The original design is so pretty and the moment I saw it on the big screen I knew I'd have to build it, but my version of it just doesn't satisfy me.
It doesn't look like the original version, but came out rather odd and somewhat more creepy looking than intended. Guess it felt the Halloween spirit lol.
I tried a few different methods and now I have another mask of the same shape lying around with all kinds of holes in it from putting material on and tearing it off again, so in the end I went for sculpting the whole thing.
Maybe I should have tried working with spackle, but I was seriously running out of time and didn't want to push this out by another week. Also, the next two masks are huge and need so much time that stalling wasn't an option.
Maybe we'll revisit the mask again when I come across a material that works better and looks more natural. Or I'll just find some bamboo and we'll build the real thing lol.
So I hope you had fun watching this video regardless of the chaos, and I'll see you again in a week. We're up for the last two masks and you bet we're going out with a bang!
As always, below the cut is a list of all the materials and tools needed to make this mask. Some of those items are fitted with affiliate links - if you use these links to buy the product, you're helping me out with a little bit of money :D
