Was anyone else waiting for Fluffy to screech, or a window breaking when he threw the jack shaft? Or was it just me? JT says, "what's the use of having a barn iffin there's puddles in the middle of the floor? Meanwhile, there's a foot high opening at the bottom of the wall behind the tractor when he backs out. Just kidding JT. Love the idea of the drive shaft. Was thinking of a sliding splined shaft when you talked about it last video. I was figuring just splines machined onto that shaft. The all new shaft is a way better idea. Waiting to see the big boy pulling 8 furrows.

It looks a lot like our Versatile 145. That thing has no mechanical issues! Just the V8 that we replaced with a Cummins 5.9 turbo inter cooled engine. Now has more horsepower, better torque, uses less fuel, and sounds great straight piped! These older tractors are easy to modify and make much better. We drill beans with it while the 850 and 875 handle the bigger jobs. But occasionally we do use it to work ground, and it works great.

I have done this on my 1200,however I have added a rubber coupler from a John Deere's to the flywheel to reduce chatter through the drive line. I saw one on a 1200 many years ago that failed, but I don't know if it was the chatter or whether the universal joints were not up to the task.

Cut the old drive shaft in half and weld about 2 ft of chain on each and you'll have some pretty good small boat anchors

It sincerely looks like this needs be done on the 1800 also. It has to do with those v-belts hooked to this drive shaft. The degrees of freedom cause an unequal pull on the drive. If the v-belts have perfectly even tension the old one will somewhat work. As time flows on an unequal condition will occur making it pull against the rubber coupler causing vibration. Probably a fault of design.

I’ll be making one just like it for the 1800 in the near future. I make the one for the ‘05 as soon as I got it since I had to do the clutch anyway and the shaft was a cobbled up mess from the previous farmer lol

Hi JT. I've also got an 1805 here in mid Michigan that needs a clutch. Since it'll be apart and I've got time this winter, the jack shaft is going to be replaced with the same setup you did. At the risk of sounding like I want you to do all the research and development for me, would you mind letting me know where you bought your clutch and what parts you used to replace the shaft. I don't have access to machine tools so I'll have to sub that out. Really, any help would be greatly appreciated.
@jtsbarnngrill6873

Actually, the clutch kit came with the tractor when I bought it. They seem fairly easy to get, ebay has various vendors that have them readily available. The stub shaft and the slip shaft are both spicer 1410 pieces and the yolks would be the same as 2 1/2 ton military axle. All pieces are available at joint clutch and gear in bay city. They’re a spicer dealer
