An end of an era!! I grew up with the Santa Fe's GP30's and GP35's. They lasted for 45+years.

Cool video! Sad to see all those old Santa Fe units rolling away like that, though. GP30s and CF7s are some of my favorite locomotive models.

In response to an earlier question--not counting the ES44's and Dash 9's, that's 52,000 horses if you take their original rated power. Nice catch!

Eagle One Wrong... They were moving these locomotives to a new facility for LTEX witch is not owned by BNSF. Only the loco's that say BNSF on them are owned by BNSF... In other words BNSF was making money for moving these units for LTEX.

I've seen all the LTEX units at Larry's yard in Youngstown Ohio, nice to see a video of them out west where they belong. Five inches of snow don't belong on a yellow bonnet

I love seeing the new BNSF painted orange and black locomotive but I also enjoyed looking at the John Deere green and white Burlington Northern units and the Santa Fe with the yellow and black yellow and blue paint scheme

Just guess but the 30 series units with the LTEX patch might be going to a short line or locomotive leasing company. It is also possible that they are going to get rebuilt into GP39Es for BNSF as well, since some GP30s have been rebuilt to 39Es. Sadly I think the LAJ CF7s are bound for scrap though. DPUs are just on their way to Chicago.

LTEX = Larry's Truck and Electric in Ohio. They're mostly scrappers / parts salvage. This train is a funeral procession for all those GPs.

"FRED" stands for Flashing Rear End Device, and it is not required when there is a locomotive on the rear of the train with a light illuminated.

It's not a power move. It's called a funeral train when old locomotives retire from what the usually do to exit service.

I strongly agree with RailRoamer about the age of the trains and calling it a funeral train. zchcsee1 even admits that they are old locomotives. No power move, just transporting engines.

Yeah but they are not turned on. Plus they are leaving service. A power move is moving locomotive power to shops and yards. Not to scrap and retirement.

Santa Fe is now part of BNSF, ie. Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway company, through many mergers over the past two decades.

The rear headlight is lit on a DPU it's considered rear protection. Either a DPU headlight, EOT, caboose, or flag is requied.

At best, re-built and sold off. At worst, scrapped. Those GP30u's and 35u's are half a century old and already re-built before.

BNSF, like UP, is hit with a big downturn in traffic. I just watched another video showing drone footage of over 150 BNSF units and hundreds of coal gondolas sitting stored in a yard in Wyoming, and these were big road engines, mostly SD70MAC's.

Those are just local work trains being moved to another yard....I work for bnsf, maintenance of way....alliance ne this past year had just over 100 engines coupled together to get hauled somewhere for updating. Maybe getting sent to overhaul and paint?

Except for the lead and the trailing remotes non were powered.....this was a funeral train all the GP's were most likely on their way to the scrap heap.

Proof that EMD used to build good locomotives. Those GP30/35s lasted over 40 years! Their current junk barely lasts 20 years (or less) before being scrapped.

I don't know much for certain about 2562 (the 2nd unit of those 3), but 2619 (1st) and 2568 (3rd) started life as CF7 locos in 1949 as members ATSF. They joined the LAJ (Los Angeles Junction Railway) in 1987 and were retired in 2012.
