I love MD2, it's my favorite game and I'm a huge fan of solo play. I bought the upgrade kit and the MD1 now to expand the universe. I didn't even think about playing MD1 anyway, but now I'll try

I agree to you as a solo player, MD2 looks awesome. But comparing MD with Zombicide is not fair when you have 4+ players. My cousin for exemple has a tendency to really delay the game searching for the optimal move, in Zombicide he takes fast turns because you just live with what you rolled and even like that we take 4-5 hours a game... I never played MD2, but seems like a great 1-3 player game, Zombicide can be really fun with 6, even 8 I had a great time once, but only if everybody is focused

Great vid. I have MD2 and love it. I never owned nor played MD1 though so hearing the comparison was interesting.

I added MD1 due to the upgrade set that came with MD2. Almost every MD1 enemy mini (Not Agents) and character has an upgrade so you can just add them and have more varied content seamlessly added in as you want.

Great review! After seeing this and reading the comments, I will play as much MD2 as I can and when I get full, I’ll go back and pick up MD1 to add more variety.

Thanks for this. I DO already have the original MD game, so this is exactly the info I need to see if I should spend the $$ for MD2. I was really frustrated and surprised that Tom Vasel and other luminary reviewers never even seemed to spend a few seconds as an aside to at least comment on what differs between the two game versions. I think I will go ahead and buy MS2 if I see a good deal.

What if you incorporated a "bizarre" in between games. Something where you can randomly deal 3-7 cards and you can trade for them 2:1 or 3:1. That might help iron out not getting the equipment for your class, but also keep that random aspect to the game.

I have Massive Darkness 2 and I’m wondering if it is worth getting the original as well. How do the Heroes from Massive Darkness transfer over to Massive Darkness 2? Do they use the same unique mini games as the Heroes in Massive Darkness 2 or do they get their own unique min games? For example the rangers arrow cards or the mage’s magic roundel.

The heroes do not have new mini-games. The upgrade/transfer for heroes and monsters is that they have all new cards with a format suitable for Massive Darkness 2. If you go to the CMON site and look up the rulebook you can see what the old cards look like. cmon-files.s3.amazonaws.com/pdf/assets_item/resource/72/MD001-Rulebook__1_.pdf Original heroes don't have any way to deal with mana and they don't have have a shadow die result. The upgrades all have cards for the original box and expansions for all levels even up to 10. Also, the upgrade has a campaign book, similar to Heaven Fall. If you really like Massive Darkness 2 getting 1 is like getting a whole new set of tiles (similar but different color and art), all new figures and a new set of scenarios and campaign. For me it was a no brainer, because I had Massive Darkness 1. It made it something that I didn't play anymore, to something that over doubled the scenarios I could play plus the increased number of monsters.

@@lightrangergames9354 I just bought into MD2, never having played or owned MD but still bought the upgrade pack along with the MD tile set. I am just going to proxy the minis 😀

MD1 = 70% (nice short Dungeon Crawler), MD2 = 65% (The game wants to be too much, too much material (like Gloomhaven) for this short game with few scenarios, few classes too shaky . It would be better if the simple MD1 was continued in MD2 with additional boss fights). MD2 is my weakest game in my collection, but I've already painted 90% of it. I have everything from MD1 98% painted (including KS) and MD2 Core game, Heavenfall, Feyfolk, Hell Gate, Monks+Necro, Thinkerer+Bards, Druids+ Nagas (KS)+ 3 bosses (KS), Upgarde, Zombicide Upgrade
