This is a bit of a different style video, so I hope you enjoy! We had Bruce Becker out to our studio to film some great new content and I wanted to capture some behind-the-scenes chats we had during the whole process. We'll be launching this project soon, so click here to stay tuned! www.Drumeo.com/drum-technique/

Jared this is a great format! It's not complicated, it's factual, and it's short enough in length so that even a poor memory like mine will retain just about all of this valuable information. I've had numerous injuries and 18 surgeries to date from my retired "day/around the clock" job, and now that I'm able to play drums full time and gig as much as I can, my health is very important to me, and we all know the physicality involved in playing Drums. At this stage of my life, it is critically important for me to have my drums, cymbals, pedals, and throne precisely set up for my body. I learned about using the "sweet" spot on the Bass pedal and I play heel down for comfort, but on occasion, I must adjust my throne level either up or down, and then adjust my pedal playing to a modified heel up and/or down playing style. Once in a while when I might be asked to sit in, I do my best to play one, maybe two songs without any adjustments if able. I've also found that not every day is the same both physically and mentally, which makes for either a good or a bad day. I love to play and be able to make people dance, and as long as I'm able, I'd love to continue playing..... Blessings and Best Wishes to all for a Peaceful and Happy New Year!!! Thank you Jared, Mr. Bruce Becker, and all of the fine contributors to Drumeo!

I greatly appreciate the wisdom of sage teachers like Mr. Bruce Becker. Like many drummers, I learned rudiments, then drum set rhythms and got by on really sketchy and ultimately destructive technique, both physically and psychologically, that greatly hampered my facility and development and threatened my lifelong pursuit of an activity that gives me so much joy. I know this stuff is so hard to hear and it's so hard to slow down and get your technique sorted out when you're young but I truly hope every young drummer at all talent/skill levels can get their head wrapped around this stuff as it would only greatly enrich their experience of playing drums for decades to come.

Bruce Becker, a very wise man and a great teacher,,,,, I've followed him and changed my hand technique. His ideas when applied contribute to more musical, legato notes and playing. I somewhat think along those lines lately about my drumming: not in terms faster, louder, but in terms of legato, subdivisions, and dynamics, whether rhythmical or musical.....Becker's thoughts are really guidelines for better playing,,,,

munnomunno I hear u. But at a clinic Dave told us hadn't be for the change of approach he probably would have quit playing the drums 15 years ago. If you remember his DCI videos his ride was very high, it looked cool but he developed arthritis on his right shoulder. Hence the reason he plays on a down slope with the 10" Tom in the highest position, ending with his floor tom below the line of his snare. It may look weird, but he is protecting his joints.

Given a a thumbs up 👍🏽 for the style of the video. I think that specific technique issues could have been talked about without disclosing the drummers identity, I think that would have been more informative and helpful, certainly for me. Cheers keep it up great channel.

Are you talking about Neil Peart, with the first problem? I am just a novice at drums. i play for enjoyment of hitting things. kind of a stress relief, haha. but i did develop tennis elbow in both elbows after a while. these days i play more with my wrists and fingers. i don't play as much as before, but the problem seems to be under control.

Neil Peart is the perfect example of what they are talking about. Great, unique player that plays with a lot of tension and (for most of his professional career) played "into" the drums. Neil did go to Freddie late in life but it's like a football player that abuses his body early in life that pays the price when he gets older.

I still struggle with getting a comfortable position for my throne. I'm only 18 and for about an hour of playing I develop lower back pain. I play well with my throne at the height it's at, and it feels good while using my bass drum but I don't know what it is? It's probably my posture that I need to tune up on but I've also had it where it hurts more on different surfaces. I have a roc n soc throne by the way, and when it's placed on a stage, I feel ok but at home in my drum room, the wood surface it sits on seems to cause pain. Then again, I could be just crazy. Great video, again!

death metal blasting pretty much forces you to use the equilibrium point and use proper technique. if you try to muscle it, you'll die in no time. And fast double bass stuff forces you to use good posture and technique. Go watch John Longstreth and see how efficient he is in his movements and how quickly he can get around the set.

Ehh why not name names? Its not like they suck, theyre successful but they have a quirk. Nothing to be ashamed about in fact its interesting how we all have different body mechanics. You see it in baseball for example where pitchers all have different ways of pitching. The wind up , where they hold the ball before the pitch , their release point, the subleties of the construction of our bodies and how we move is just what is. Aint nothin to be embarrassed aboot. (They are in canada after all) and while race isnt a real thing (were all homo sapien and share the same dna) ive heard miles davis describe a difference tween black and white players. If i remember correctly i think he said , and i believe its not an exact rule or law just something he noticed or felt, that white players felt behind the beat where black players were more in front. I personally dont know but its interesting to me. Not judging who's better or its a competition but for whatever reason what are differences between peoples playing , i think, is an interesting question. We talk about fast and slow twich muscle fiber for example. Ppl who are double jointed. These differences must give some ppl an advantage and or disadvantage to playing. I know ppl get squeamish about these things sometime but you dont have to be a eugenic racist to notice some ppl are different in body type that may help or hurt for a specific purpose in life. Cheers
